It is! The hornets and wasps are actually easier to deal with you can usually find the nest fairly quickly in a eve or up high somewhere and kill the nest.

The yellow jackets on the other hand  are quite clever and they build hives underground using abandoned underground tunnels built by snakes or moles ect.. so they can be pretty large and it really is frightening when you find that they are there when your shovel strikes into the nest :(. The joys of rural living!

Luckily the digging is done for the time being. My husband said no more of that till its much colder. In other good news the Coop should be done in the next few days, I am so excited!! It will be so cool to see them explore it. Then the covered run will need a door and lots and lots of hardware cloth. So close!!
You have to post pictures when it's done!

I have a field that fits the bill, and there’s a couple private runways on island… if you get really bored I’m always accepting help with goatwalking and building projects…and I think I might be closer… considering fuel costs and all.View attachment 3253392
Taxes: and older but goodie… I still love that rogue tail feather… and you know it’s from spring because everything here is crispy brown now 🙁View attachment 3253393
That is a great photo!

The tempering process on the wood stove is going on too. Not sure how high it's gone (the stove surface temp, currently cooling down to 100F), but it's currently 39F outside. This is wonderful for the wildfire sites (colder temps really help put them OUT). The stove circulation fan is quiet and I feel like a giddy kid (it's christmas!) :wee
:wee :wee (it's dropped a couple more degrees outside, may go down a couple more before sunrise):wee
Great photos. I for one will not be excited when the temp drops. But bully for you.

The yellow jackets are still alive and thriving. I don't have a next level of weaponry other than burning down the house.
:th

I will have to tell guests not to use the door into the kitchen but to go around the other side. I haven't been out to see if the deck nest is silent but if not I will need to figure a plan B for that too.
I still have 24 hours so I can try dusting again in daylight. Maybe these are different wasps, maybe they just showed up for the funerals of the ones I killed overnight. Doubt it, they look very much at home.
Well that stinks. Tough little buggers.

Happy Friday

Some chair bums....

Good morning all, my drive in to work was uneventful, have a new song stuck in my head (we’re not gonna take it by twisted sisters- hahaha ). Was treated to a splendid sunrise, the sun was huge red ball this morning ❤️ (Oooo another great song! Red rubber ball by the Seekers ❤️).
