I would love to go to Scotland and see our family castles. It's so pretty there.

My whole property is gravel... well except for the small sand spot they have claimed as their dust bath!

That may be part of it. Sharp stones leading to cut feet. But it doesn’t sound like it happens that often.

I prefer grass, straw, sand, pine shavings and good ole dirt.

I must be paranoid or have a chicken foot fetish. I check my chickens legs and feet everyday. Are the scales flat? Are they clean? I look at the top and bottom as they walk buy and walk around. Im like a mom I wipe stuff off their feet and food off their beaks. And I get the evil eye for doing it.

I got a remedy for that. My hammer.

A neighbor here, will throw broken glass in my yard, knowing that my chooks will scratch around and hurt themselves. I’m on constant watch for anything like that in my yard.

i actually use all of it I have grass and straw in the run, and some dirt and sand dust baths. And the coop is sand on the bottom with straw on top, the sand will help soak up the moisture so the straw last longer and they stay warmer in the winter. If anything I may clean the coop out completely and do pine shavings deep liter. Pine shavings in muddy spots but I head and watched a video about pine pellets I may try. Also pine shavings in the brooder after the first week.
