About twice a week I have been giving the chicks little tastes of something new. Scrambled eggs, oatmeal, crushed crackers. Well tonight we had leftover lasagna so I cut it up into small pieces and gave em a little. They loved it of course but what I noticed was Pecan (baby roo) was tid bitting the girls! He would take a piece lay it down in from for the girls and use his beak to push it towards them and peck at it but not eat it. I didn’t expect to see this behavior so young. Had to share as I found it adorable.

Good roosters are wonderful to watch in action. No matter how young.

I forgot to mention that the bill was dropped! So for now, the feral are safe!!!! I'll try sharing more photos of the feral chickens in the future - they are all such beautiful birds

The flu season is upon us. They said it would start early this year, they were right. Folks getting sick in our state, including me. Sick all last week and still coughing and blowing my nose. Tested twice for covid.. negative. We all got sick in the house of course. My daughter in law is pregnant, bless her heart, she's still coughing too. Thinking also.. school has started.. always gets things going.

I'll check with my epidemiology friends. I have not checked in with them in a while. I had not heard the flu was already cranking up.

Flu tax. And a twosome...

I was surprised they tested for flu as I had not heard of the flu going around. Going by what was posted on her schools page I do know that Covid, Rhinovirus and Strep-throat has been running rampant in the school since the first week. I honestly felt it was just a matter of time before she came down with something. The doctor at the after-hours clinic mentioned in the last week they have had 10 positive cases of the flu. With Rosie's symptoms, honestly, she could have any of them. Congestion, ear ache, sore throat, sneezing, coughing body aches and one minute she is freezing, the next she is burning up. The only thing she is not doing is running a fever. She never runs a fever though, not once in her life. I think if she ever did I would panic and head straight to the ER.

Good roosters stay asleep, even when I can’t find sleep. Jaffar is no exception. He’s been inside with me all night so far (because he chose to do so) poor little guy still has that breathing problem and throat gurgling. I’m sure that he’s tired, chasing his ladies around all day, but he’s doing fine sleeping in his room in the house (I just checked on him)
Little does he know, that he’s going back to town with me in eight hours. He’s such a good rooster buddy!

Let me try to explain about Jaffar my rooster.
1. Without any feathers, he’d be about the same size of a large grapefruit.
2. He always seems to understand what I tell him.
3. The family I got him from, must have loved him a lot (he responds to that kind of attention.
4. He does prefer to be near me as much as possible.
He’s very dedicated to his ladies (and will fight to the death to protect them) he has survived dog attacks as proof of that.
5. If given a bath, he quietly enjoys the soft feeling of soaking in the tub (but doesn’t like the noise of a hair dryer much.
6. He responds positively to any stimulus that I show interest in. (Music especially)
7. Some crazy reason, he loves WW2 Marine corps movies and (Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho) and will stare at the screen to watch them.
8. It never fails, that he goes hungry, because he’s always tidbitting his food to his ladies. (I bring him inside and feed him without distraction)
9. He’s very attentive when he feels that it’s time to go back out to see his ladies. (And tells me so)
10. He’s a troublemaker, but that’s just his personality. (I wouldn’t want it any other way)

I am explaining all of this, because if he was to pass away, I would be too devastated to even share my feelings with you good people.
I have so much more to say about Jaffar, but I have bored you all, enough already. Thanks for reading.
