Annie, queen of the flock issuing orders:

Sweet Penny, such a gentle hen who really hopes to be a mama someday:

And Ruth, the most prolific layer in the flock. She is a very messy drinker and grooms away her beard because she doesn't like it wet. I still think she is beautiful with her lovely cape of orange and black feathers:

Congratulations to all who did today's mugs. They are particularly outstanding .

I promised I would try, so I used the camera today for the mugs. Unfortunately, I hurt my right hand, so, higher resolution didn't compensate taking left handed photos .

4 ex-batt - hope this can be considered a mug, Nougat, Blanche, Brune and Cannelle.

Gastounet! He's molting the feathers he just grew, first the long wing feathers, and now on the head, I hope this isn't something to worry about!

Mugs Monday shots.
First 2 up are Karen and Lilly. There has been some comb and wattle development in the last week. Based on these changes I think both girls may lay now by mid-October. Lilly has shown the biggest change.

Squirrel, on her way to lay her egg. She wants to kill me as I now have to climb up on top of the hay stack to gather hers and a few other girls eggs.

Finally Bunny, 4 days into trying to convince her she is NOT hatching again.....It is not going well. Why is it not going well? She has several co-conspirators contributing eggs to her that I have to painfully remove.

Thanks! We are having lovely fall weather, down below freezing at night and up to around 12C during the day.
I have the day off today for the Queen's funeral, so more time to spend with my chickens!
Since we're talking about queens, I will include a photo of the queen of my flock for tax!
