It is just not stopping raining! I don’t want to put the horses out as they will get chilled, but they hate being in.

Well I will need to go do chores now and make a decision. Another reason I hate where I work they are very inflexible about my taking time for myself or working from home (which I did fyi for 3 months during Covid, but oh now it’s impossible - new hr mngr 🤨)

How much is that doggie in the corner, the one with the waggedy tail…

EDIT: supposed to be window not corner…

All you really need is a light source so you can see them in the dark/low light.

A solar light in there is inexpensive and really all you need - you don’t need all the fancy-dancy stuff, it’s nice to think about but not required 💕

I have a $10 solar light that I sometimes use like a flashlight but I can use it as a light source also, and have done so prior to having the generator when we had power outages.
I've got a head tourch. Would the light be a form of heat? I don't think so but may be wrong.
I like them to sleep in the dark so they don't over lay. Tina could do with stopping for a while now. I need eggs but want her healthy a lot more.

It was suggested in here last year and an absolute god send to check on them and give medication when needed during the night

And, I’m searching for a big ham to make dinner for six people. But nobody has a ham for me to purchase! I have tried calling four stores in town so far. (It’s just a stupid ham, how hard can it be?) :barnie :he
I had to order a turkey online a month ago to get one. Try wild fork. It was delicious and priced appropriately.

As most of you know I made the typical new chicken servant error of purchasing chicks before having the coop and run built. I also used the we will have plenty of time excuse to justify doing so.

So, we did indeed manage to get the coop built and secured in the nick of time (read that as a week later then intended) but we are still working on the run. Its mostly completed but we ran out of hardware cloth so its on a short temporary hold.

Today instead of working on the run I made gravity feeders and waters out of 5 gallon buckets with a kit I found on Amazon. Amazingly I participated in a DIY miracle as this actually went off with zero issues both feeders and waters were completed quickly and with no oh crap! now what?? moments. So now I have 2 waters 2 feeders of decent size for adult birds. My plan was to to have water and food available inside the coop and in the run.

I have read conflicting information on food in the coop. Some do so some say oh no don’t. Which camp are you guys in and why?
I think it depends on several factors. Most importantly how big is your coop? If it is big enough to hold all of them for harsh winter days, then probably you can place feed/water inside. It probably also depends on if you intend them to be in a confined run or free range.

My coop is small and only for sleeping, so no water or feeder ever in there.
