Situation with Chaco is now over. Yes I am understandably upset about this whole thing. But I believe that I have done the right thing regarding her. She was such a sweet princess horse, and didn’t deserve to get sick. I’m okay with my decision. But yes I’m terribly sad about it too. I just need to finish some paperwork. Glad I have lots of pictures of her to remember her by.

Here is Maggie's weight. She has lost about a pound since I weighed her two months ago when she was about 6 pounds. The graph and data is in grams but that is roughly the conversion.
I don't know how worried to be about that amount of weight loss.
Sorry for the crappy photo - I didn’t know how to share the graph so I just snapped a picture of it with my phone.

Was the May weight when she wasn't feeling well? That is a large percentage of her weight, but,as long as you can get her eating again, I wouldn't panic just yet....but I wouldn't want her to lose any more weight....

:hugs :hugsShe is such a good companion.💕..and such a worry!:barnie

The May weight is pretty much the same as today's weight. In May she was well - I think I just wanted to get a baseline. August was the surprise weight because it was high. That was when she laid the lash egg and I weighed her to calculate the antibiotic dose.
So an optimistic way of looking at it is that she is more-or-less stable but put on a bit of weight before the lash egg.
The pessimistic view of course is that she lost 6% of her body weight in the last 8 weeks.
I dunno what to think. She is clearly not happy - back into a nest box tonight, and only eating a little.
On the other hand there isn't much I can do except keep tempting her to eat. That is why she got beef this afternoon and some meal worms. I will try egg again but she wasn't that into it a few days ago.

Sophia went to skin and bones last year when she molted. I fed her scrambled eggs for a long time. I think 5 weeks I fed her. Finally she started to pick up and now she is golden.

If you can get her eating with something she really likes i wouldn’t worry if it’s ‘junk food’.

I sure hope she gets better soon 🥰

? 6%? 🤔I get 17.5 % body weight loss.

2800 - 2309 = 491
491/2800 = .175357, so ~ 17.5% loss from Aug. 😟

That said, her weight may have been abnormally high in August (inflammation, retaining fluid, etc, etc, etc...) and she may be somewhere around her normal now???? I know you don't want to handle her, but I would gently feel her breast. Any movement on her by your hand should move in the direction of feather growth. (i.e. like on back, stoke from head to tail.) I know you will be very gentle....I would be nervous about the weight loss and would need to feel her breast/breast bone for confirmation of either 'okay' or 'needs more food'
:idunno

But, that is me, and I tend to be a bit impatient and need to 'know now'....You are a bit more contemplative than I...so please don't take my need as a directive for your action.☹️

Oh Alex so sorry, I know this agony, which is why I am trying not to cry. Having pets is such heartache and loss at times. Sad sad sad 😢

So glad you have jaffar, coco, and all your other wonderful feathered friends ❤️ to help you.

True dat!!!!

But better in May next year!
No, May is too early. You want them to go into winter with nice new feathers that will keep them warm. This is about right...maybe it would be best a few weeks earlier...but not months. Though we would worry less then than now!🙄 They always give us something to worry about ......
