Oh Alex, I’m so sorry for your loss. Snuggle with Jaffar, and you will still both be in my prayers.

That’s such a hard decision to face, but I do think you made the right one. I watched one of the horses here suffer with that and she was literally shaking in pain before the people responsible for making the decision (in the absence of the owners) chose the right thing. You are hurting right now, but Chaco isn’t, and that is really the most important. 🙏 much love my friend. Having fur and feathered family is so hard for us sometimes, but worth it for the difference in their quality of life.
:love Thanks for that.

:hugs
I still think you should move there out of the way of the nasty neighbors. Hard to suffer too much from neighbors on nearly 15 acres. Maybe in time you will get another horse to make use of the barns. Or maybe an emu.
You could rename the barns in Chaco’s honor.
Just rambling.
:hugs
That property is too far away from my airport hanger. :(

I feel like this is a monumental moment. I caught up to the present and made it through all the posts from the beginning of this thread. What a wonderful journey and what a wonderful exchange of knowledge. There is heartbreak, alot of laughter, many touching moments and through it all so much love for chickens and all animals but also for each other. By Bob started a wonderful thing here all those years ago. I hope it continues for many more to come. :)
That’s good. So, can I get you a drink? A Valium? (Borrow my padded room for a few days?) :old I’m kidding. I can’t let anyone use my padded room.:lau

Xanax or a bit of brandy if you can spare either one ( not both though they don't mix well.. ask me how I know haha) it was a bit of an emotional roller coaster 🎢 for sure. ;)

Thanks. I think she was beautiful too.

Yes. She had a little bit of starter (22% protein) mash, a little bit of chopped beef and she foraged a bit.
But it is all at half speed. She is currently sunning herself by my side.
I think molting must be exhausting. And maybe as they get older it takes a bigger toll on them.
She just looks how I feel (old and tired). I too am sunning myself.
Don’t worry I won’t post any pictures… but about half of my girls and 1/3 of my boys are fully porcu-chook either half Nekkid or looking like sad little hedgehogs. There are feathers Everywhere it looks like either a dozen chickens were dry-plucked or a pack of teenage girls had a giant pillow fight with down pillows in my yard, floating down our road… if it wasn’t for the winds I’d be ankle deep in feathers! In addition to the 18% protein feed, they will be in for a real treat tomorrow… bone dust! In going from sides of beef to cuts there is basically a giant bandsaw and today they cut and wrapped three steers, so I have several pounds of super finely ground beef, fat, and bone dust to distribute. Calcium and protein snacks all rolled into one highly desired treat. Little carnivores. If you have a butcher nearby they might be willing to give you their saw cleanings… (that doesn’t have any other use I’m aware of)

I love goats hubby wont let me have one :(
😂 yeah that’s what I hear all the time… “No! Put that back where you found it… fine but she’s not sleeping in the bed… etc. etc.” who was talking to the goat every night while he was in hospital for three weeks? (they don’t do FaceTime/see screens like we do though) who is a spoiled rotten little daddy’s goat?
