I got some netting from Airdrie Canvas in Alberta to cover my runs. It is heavy duty with a knot in each corner of every square in the mesh. It deterred one raptor attack that I witnessed. The girls were very freaked out, but lived to tell the tale! Actually, they were so scared that they all huddled in a circle, not moving or speaking for over half an hour. They talked about it later.
Will look them up, may be heading that way soon (hope anyways)…

I think she is trying to zen with Maggie there!

That’s a great set up.

I am rethinking my outside run now that I know the hawk is around, I need to get some mesh over top asap.

Anyone have any suggestions? The run is 16’ wide and about 90’ long - but broken up by big trees.
aviary netting would probably work and be in wide enough widths for that span. Otherwise, run chicken wire with it's lenght going across the run, and lace spans/rows together with coated wire. run some sort of support across the top every 2 or 3 rows of chicken wire.

Well that was a complete waste of time.
I found bricks. I figured the configuration so they fitted in the nest box. I cleaned the bricks. I brought them up to the Chicken Palace. I dried them off in the sun. I put the top layer in the oven to heat them up. I constructed a cardboard cover for them. I placed it all carefully in 'Maggie's box', I covered it with pine shavings, I put pine cat litter in the lower part so the liquid poo would be absorbed.
I felt pretty pleased with myself.
Maggie took one look at it and went into the next box along.
