The chicks are doing great. It took Bunny all of 3 days to decide that once again the corner of Russ's stall is the best place to sleep at night. Once again it seems I have to move her and the chicks at night. Blueberry has another egg pipped and should be out soon plus 2 more that I can hear cheeping inside.
I would swap out a few chicks with each other, just to mess with the mama hens heads! (I’m not suggesting that you do that)

Listen, I almost accidentally did that yesterday. I came out to find Raven had decided it was time to take the chicks off the nest. She is fighting with Blueberry in the process. I see a blue chick also with Blueberry and assumed it was Raven's and that is what the fight was about so I stuck it up with the others. Only then did I realize my mistake as there is 6 chicks in Raven's nest not 5 and 2 blue ones. I lift up Blueberry and sure enough she had a early hatched chick. The only thing that saved me from possibly messing up the 2 blue chicks is thankfully Raven's blue chick was starting to get feathers on it wing tips. If not for that I would not have known who was who.

Oh, the confusion! That’s why I only have one broody session at a time, and I’m not hatching any chicks at all.

But I do get a lot of stray kittens in this area!
I counted 7 this morning. F84712F7-A93B-4A7B-AD0F-AD7D8551B70E.jpeg

Well that was a complete waste of time.
I found bricks. I figured the configuration so they fitted in the nest box. I cleaned the bricks. I brought them up to the Chicken Palace. I dried them off in the sun. I put the top layer in the oven to heat them up. I constructed a cardboard cover for them. I placed it all carefully in 'Maggie's box', I covered it with pine shavings, I put pine cat litter in the lower part so the liquid poo would be absorbed.
I felt pretty pleased with myself.
Maggie took one look at it and went into the next box along.
:he
You have to block the other off. Geeze.

Wow she loves that stall! My gang loves Trulys stall for some reason- even when she was in the old stall they stayed there. I think it’s because she stall walks and mashes her bedding so fine.

I can’t wait to see how Blueberry does with her eggs 😊
