He drives well enough for you to be relaxed and taking photos???

10-20 miles/hour on gravel roads. He says he's nervous about handling a "1000 pound death machine". Says he's not ready for the highway. Wants to drive the same route several times going opposite direction for turning other way practice.

This old girl gave us quite the scare Tuesday. For the first time in her life she had seizures. Noticed the first one at about 3pm. They were not really violent at first, but then at 4:30 she had a bad one. Rushed her to the vet, and she kept having small ones until 2 am. Head to toe work-up, everything is clear and normal. She just turned 10 in September. Vet thinks they were due to age and she may periodically have them now or may never have another episode. If she starts having them frequently she will go on seizure meds but for now its just a wait and see. My last golden lived to be 12, I'm not ready to loose my Gracie girl just yet.

One of our cats is on anti-seizure meds and seems to be doing really well.

She is a beauty.
My Dad was like your DH. He used to yell at me and my Mom for introducing cats to the home and threatened to get rid of them all on a regular basis.
But he was all bluster and when he thought he wasn't being observed he chatted away to them and scratched them between their ears.
He cared for them all for many years after my Mom died.
Such a softie!

I’ve got a picture somewhere of my dad with my old cat in his lap. He looks unimpressed but he never kicked her off!

Okay, @BY Bob , you asked for it...it will be a long post:

How I make a cardboard sleeve for my heated bricks:

Items required: Duct tape, scissors, brick, & corrugated cardboard box

Remove packing tape & open box up:

I like to use the small 'flap' of cardboard that held the box together as my overlap (seen above on the far left)

Lay brick against that crease, then 'roll/flip' brick to determine where to cut the cardboard. Note: make it just a hair bigger, so it isn't too tight.

Notice above I scored the box where I need to cut (both for reference and makes cutting easier) You could also use a sharpie to draw the 'cut' line.


Now I determine the length needed, and cut the flap that I will fold in to close the sleeve when completed:View attachment 3292960
Hard to tell in the pic above, but I folded it over...note I'm using a natural crease for ease.

Next I trim the ends of the flap so it will slide into the box when the brick is inserted:View attachment 3292961View attachment 3292962

Next, trim at the bottom end so there is enough of a flap to tape up/seal/cover the bottom end of the brick: Here I scored again where I needed to cut. Notice the longer peice at the back - that will be the flap that covers the bottom of the brick.View attachment 3292994

Now that it is cut to size, fold around brick. (Again, be sure it isn't tight, or brick won't slide in/out easily)

Leave it like this once hot brick is inserted.


Then, later when brick has cooled, just open and remove brick for reheating:View attachment 3293001

The cardboard helps the brick release heat slowly, as it is a decent insulator. It also keeps the chickens from burning their feet if they step on it. Plus, protects the brick from the inevitable poop....so it can be reheated without having to wash it each time.

How is Gracie doing?

She is back to her old self and not so much as a twitch. Inside she plays like the old spoiled dog she is and sleeps all day long and acts like she cannot get around. Once she is outside she is a tennis ball chasing puppy. She did sulk this weekend as it was muzzle loading season for deer. She knows what the hunting gear means and thinks when it is on that it is time to go Squirrel hunting and whined when they left her. Sorry old girl, you cannot go deer hunting. But when they do get one they let her track them, not that they have ever needed her too, she will lead you right to it.
