We got more today....and I think, so far, have more than we got the entire last winter...

Yesterday, found chicken tracks in the snow. Based upon the size, either Hector or Whiskey. No one else left the coop. Today, no one ventured forth.....and it's down to single digits F. The roost locations have shifted some. The main lower one has become the least desired (in front of/above the bird door). All moved into the corners. Or burrowed into nest boxes.
It's going to be a long road for them from here until spring arrives. Poor babies.

I wanna whine…

My RLS has been really aggravating the past couple weeks (likley in part due to the stress of my departure from work!), and nothing is stopping my leg spasms… even watching my chooks and ponies on the barn cams gives me no relief or enjoyment, just irritation that everyone is sleeping and I am not! And I am freezing because I have to get up and can’t snuggle under the warm feather duvet - so I want to whine about that also!

So right now I am rather like Blanche, grumpy. If I could bite someone’s finger I would 😡

And I look at the barn cam and even Blanche is sleeping ! Oh don’t get me wrong I am beyond tired, but as soon as I rest (even sitting here) my RLS kicks in - literally! And the leg muscles start up🥺 and it’s very painful…

Time to go to the Dr and whine and complain, but short of giving me stronger meds not much to be done… anyone who thinks Restless Leg Syndrome (Willis-Ekbom) is just an irritating thing should know it’s very debilitating. The meds I take can be addictive and become less effective over time (which is what is happening now I feel).

If anyone feels they have RLS here is a good site to read about it, and if you have it let me know how you deal with it;

Nice to see everyone sleeping 😊

I'm so very sorry that you have to suffer from this. I wish there was some cure for you. Not being able to sleep would be the worst thing ever.

Yep I think his issue was the parasite load. I have also not seen any further stools with the intestinal shedding.

Makes me feel rotten I didn’t do this earlier 😟
It takes time sometimes to figure out what is going on. Don't beat yourself up. You did good getting to it in time.

Thank you, very kind. I wouldn’t be so whiny but it’s cold out and so I can’t go wandering outside hahaha! Which is too bad because the moon was brilliant! Usually I. The warm weather I go outside for a stroll but once it gets cold I do t like going outside.

I think the moonlight is what had everyone in the barn so active last night and Mr P crowing up a storm 🥰 I had a beautiful view of the moon this morning and took a couple photos I will post later on.

Ok well I am late getting to the barn so I better get my derrière in gear, the chooks won’t be happy with the cold winter!

Never. I have always treated when I identify some. Never had any real issues. Maleficent was bothered by coccidia once but that was easily cleared up.
I have only had really bad issues when the gals were moulting and not eating properly. I keep right up on top of that now and bribe with treats etc to make sure they eat.

The parasite thing threw me for a loop!

You are not going to introduce infection with your finger. Wash your hands good before and after. Don't touch your face after until you have washed your hands.
There is no harm in using gloves but also no harm doing it without gloves, other than cleaning under your nail really well. All will be fine.

Use coconut oil as lubricant if you have it. If you feel an egg, paint along the edges of the shell with the coconut oil to provide lubrication so it can more easily slip out.
And file your fingernails really short beforehand if you don’t use gloves.
