Huh? I think I am losing the plot on what the issue is.
I can take it off and on very easily - it is just hamgs on a couple of mounting screws. I could easily move it to the right by adding/moving those screws.
It is less than 12" from the roost - so when they are in front of it they can toast their little butts or keep their combs warm. And if I had more than two chickens all the ones furthest from the wall would be right in front of it. The issue is that with only two of them and them prefering to be up against the wall they aren't getting the benefit of it.
The easiest solve for that is to shift it to the right of the board I mounted across the window.
Bob is advocating rotating it 90 degrees and having it at the end. I am not so sure about that but could try it out. I don't think it can hang the other side of the roost as they use that to get up (Bernie goes up that way, and then goes down to the platform and then back up to get 'her slot'). They also use it to get down - admittedly the Roadrunners more than Diana used to fly direct from the roost through the human door when it is open into the run. And I am not seeing the benefit of it being on the other side of the roost given it is so close to the roost already.
What am I missing?

And while I ponder all these puzzles Diana is leading the shuffle to be in front of the heat!

I didn't know it was 12" or less from the roost bar already, it looks further. So Bernie shoots up through that space when she tries to dislodge Diana! Though the hens here do often stand much closer than 12", within an inch or two of it, they also stand further away. Maybe there's no problem at all if Diana's decided to move in front of it and it's enough. There's an advantage to being on the end! ❤️

So you know how we have 2/3 of an acre and my neighbor has 1 acre? The chickens used to use the other yard at will . Well, not anymore. Sadly, this is what I see outside my front door now.

The gate is absolutely massive. A large pick up truck can fit through just half of the gate. They no longer have access to that lovely meadow, so we’re going to have to maximize our yard.
Fools! Don’t they know that chicken poop is the most fabulous lawn fertilizer out there?
And they were getting it all for free! :old

Hello FBA! It's really interesting to hear about your winter adjustments. Here we got the first frost this morning 😁 and really hoping for some snow tomorrow. I realize snow and cold can be a pain when it lasts for months, but here it would now be the only thing that could refill the groundwater.

Hope to hear some good news from Jaffar, and @Ponypoor .

I went to see the abandoned horses this morning. Here's a photo of the male Gribouille for pony Sunday and in memory of Chaco.

Sadly, I found the mare really going downhill. I hadn't seen her in two weeks. I hope she has a quick and painless ending now.

I have some new chicken drama going on : Piou-piou has turned into a jealous ruffian 😮.
Yesterday I intercepted a huge fight between her and Léa. I didn't see who began the fight but Léa walked away and I got the impression Piou-piou was the aggressor. This was confirmed today, as I saw Piou-piou attack both Merle and Léa.
The thing is, Léa is much biger than Piou-piou and though she seemed to have lost the fight, she pecked her pretty bad. There was blood all over her face. When I cleaned it up yesterday and saw it was just a peck in the comb I was very relieved, but today I noticed it's not just a peck- she actually tore a piece of Piou-piou's comb off!
Piou-piou doesn't give a damn and never seemed to be in pain. She is afraid of no one. She reminds me of Chipie when she first arrived!

All for this guy.

Gave everybody a corn mix and dried BSF larvae, Peanut got hers on the perch. She really went for the corn first, which is unusual, she must really want the calories. I got an interesting picture, look at her tongue!
Behind a spoiler because she is really naked, her pins are barely coming out. She has a totally bare belly. Only her upper neck feathers cover what is s a bare neck. She lost her tail feathers last night.
