You make it sound wonderful!
Getting older doesn't feel like that for me. But it does for my parents. I'm hoping there's a turning point and it's not just due to personality .
I hope my ex-batts are happy, it's hard to tell ! They are a lot more easily afraid and I think they have grown more sensitive to the weather also.

There is lots of population research to support the fact that the elderly tend to be happier than younger folk.
We have less to prove, have less anxiety about what other people think of us, our expectations on life are lower so we are less often disappointed. Now of course health and poverty are big modifiers to all that, but generally we are a content bunch!

Yes I did but my number is still 214 this morning. Slowly going down I need to check it again real quick. Took my metformin so it should be lower.
edit for more info. I'm down to 158 woot.

What is up with Jaffar this morning? He’s strutting around like a lottery ticket winner. He’s being very deliberate with his walking and crowing. (Some days, I can’t figure him out. Today is one of those days!)

Do those of you who have older chickens also find they act like old people ?

In general, yes. They are more willing to let others scratch around while they watch. The cold slows them down. My Lilly had documented arthritis around 5 years old and was on meds for it. When it got cold and damp she slowed down.

She also hung out under cover more as she aged. I do think that could be linked to the increased prevalence of hawks but also I think to knowledge and the judgement that it wasn't worth the risk for that blade of grass.

Hattie is doing the same thing these days. She is 4 now. She is less likely to be out roaming and more likely to be hanging out in Hattie House or under the apple trees.
