He’s had a long day of roostering. He. Needs his beauty sleep, and he’s going to get it! 48093934-7087-45B0-84AD-60765F000DD6.jpeg

Worst Weather
Today is an example of the worst weather we get. It's not blizzards. It's not hurricanes.

it's ice.

It iced all night and is still freezing rain at this moment. I went out just before lunch time to feed and water the chickens. They were hanging out under their coop nice and dry.

While i was out there I her a huge crack and down came one of the truncated l trunks of the birch tree. Thankfully i got all that dead stuff trimmed and the roof replaced on the coop because down it came.

The arrow shows where it broke off.

Here are some more photos of the ice. Be sure to zoom in on them to see the details.

Just down the street from us a pine tree was sagging below car height.

I would rather 3 feet of snow to this stuff. Very dangerous. This is why I chose a development with underground wiring. Very little chance of a power outage. So far so good. We still have power. 🤞
I agree whole heartedly - ice is dangerous in so many ways! I'm sorry you lost another portion of your beloved Birch, but glad it didn't do any damage to the coop!

That said, it is absolutely gorgeous. I think you should submit something for the Winter on the Farm. It has to have poultry in it for the contest, so these particular photos won't work.. but you have such good photography skills, and at the moment a lovely canvas (even if yucky/dangerous/scary!) to work with, I'm sure you can submit a stunner of a photo if you have time to take one!

I'm hoping you don't have to work away from home tomorrow, so you won't have to walk/drive in the stuff (other than to out to the coop to care for the girls!):fl
