I know I just loved it - the whole thread of the bantering is just so much fun! So glad we 'hired' Aurora to do her commentary :)

OK well I better get 'cracking' here! I will try to touch base later and see what antics the new gals have been up to - and may see some chicks from @GregnLety and if Momma Hen is progressing ok with @RebeccaBoyd - so much eggcitement lately, helps with my missing my kiddos, horses and fam. Thanks everyone I expect some awesome photos later today meanwhile here is one of my kiddos.

I think RC’s black hen looks a bit like Dorothy! Is the black hen Eli?View attachment 3367433
I just love black chickens she is beautiful!

Dear Aurora,
My name is Dottie and I love you soo much you have such great advice. I write in desperation with a few issues.
There are a few things going on in the coop at the same time. Let me just start by saying I was number one in the coop and sat on my human servants lap and shoulder all the time.
Now Summer is number one because she laid the first egg and Maleficent is number 2 because she laid the 2nd egg and I laid the 3rd egg which was a pretty olive green.
My questions and needed advice are how do I become number one again? Summer has been sitting on my human servants lap and now I am jealous, but I still sit there too because my human servant loves me to death.
AAAANd on top of it all we have 2 roosters (Hades and Zeus) in here jumping me, Autumn and Summer. Hades jumped me this morning he is king of the coop so I should naturally be queen! The other girls dont have pretty colors like me and lay blue eggs. Ive inserted Autumn and SUmmers photos for reference

What do we do with these guys. I'm not ready for chicks yet! And on top of that my human servant brought out 5 more tweens that are in the coop. Theres so much going on and so much chaos I dont know what to do and how to rise to number one again. Summer is no Queen she is very submissive and doesnt pay attention. I ran the coop with an iron wing and kept the other girls in line and those boys too.
What should I do with the tweens? Terrorize them? She's letting them out of their cage this afternoon I will chase them and try to instill fear. But that's all I got for now,
Your biggest fan Dottie

Eli is the black one - she has a beard and muffs and she has gold feather shafts on her back.
She is trouble and she is beautiful!

If Bolt wasn't choking, what else could it have been? She was holding her beak open and wheezing. Should I be worried about anything else? Like if she was not choking?
She just had a bit of food or something go down the wrong way, they usually resolve it within a few hours if not very soon. Like a human, if she was wheezing, then she was still breathing, so the best course is to let them be and see if it causes her real problems.

Squeezing and massaging her crop won't help that issue and could aspirate her if food comes back up while she's breathing. Squeezing her (like for a heimlich maneuver?) doesn't work in chickens because their skeletal frame is much stiffer than it is in humans. Notice how their cute butts go in and out when they breathe? That's because that is the only place that moves and is part of how they expand and contract their lungs.

My internet connection is back ! I'm in the black chicken fan club now 🖤. She is beautiful indeed, but so is Babs I think. Don't say you only took two pictures in all that time! We want more!

I think the roosting situation will resolve itself on it's own. I've found younger chickens have the advantage of being very light and tend to see height as safety, and then grow out of it as they morph into adults.
I didn't see if you said how old they are by the way ?
Its currently 54 degrees. Going out to get treats ready and feed the big girls and let the little girls out. Wish me luck.
Let us know how it went !

A Théo série for thirsty Thursday. This is kind of the easy way out but he's so cute drinking 😂.
