For those of you who may need a chick fix here you go.
Notice the only rooster she is comfortable with being around. That's my boy. They are of course not his, I checked them carefully when I brought them off the hill but he does not care. If there are chicks, he is the daddy.
Adorable! Thanks for sharing - but I have to say you are just not playing fair! haha! Love how Branch blocked the hen from the chicks there. He is a good Roo.

Do you know what happened to Momma's foot? I heard you mention about it last week and I was wondering. It certainly doesn't stop her.

I'm fairly certain Bubba is the daddy. They show zero silkie traits that the Branch babies have had at hatching. This will not be my first time with this cross, when she snuck off and came back with 10 chicks Drumstick was the daddy. The boys ended up looking like him but with a slender build. The hens in that group were slender as well and marked like Goose. All 4 of the new chicks do have feathered feet this time around.
Can't wait to see how they grow up! they sure are thriving aren't they?

Good morning! The chickens coop is a mud hole, with the crazy amount of rain we are getting over here. I'm awake, and that's about all I can say.
Seems the weather everywhere is crazy, all I can say is that I am happy it isn't crazy cold like last year back home. My chickies are dealing really well so far with the winter, and for that I am extremely happy. I bought a sweeter heater over Christmas so if it gets really cold I told my mum to put that on for them. So far it's been mild thankfully.

OK Henny Penny where are you tonight? I count 12, and seems everyone is shaking things up again. Misty in the nest box that Buttercup normally roosts in. But she is now on the planks roosting.

Oh there she is! On the shelf outside of Whiskers preferred roosting nest box!

Hmmm. I wonder if it will be back.
I agree the legs looked more grey fox or coyote. But the ears looked too rounded at the top.
I tried to figure out the tail but the video was just not clear enough.
The shoulder joint /chest angle looked more cat than canine to me, not enough curve...and now I've rewatched and am 2nd, 3rd, and 4th guessing myself.

I don't know where my coyote went but I am waivering a little as I can't see a tail. No tail means bobcat.
@RoyalChick
I’m going to break with everyone else and ask… any chance of a young deer? I’ve seen them point their ears forward like that, the rear legs look prey/forest animal to me, not canid, and the leg/body proportions just look wrong for coyote, at least the ones I’m used to seeing. (I did a whole lot of pause and zooms as I could on your video). Here, the whole wild animal birthing season was completely off the rails in 2022, with many very, very late fawns… I’m hoping one of the “my” four deer survived… but it’s not looking good. I recently found one of the 2 fawns (deceased) in the gulley, and it was about half the size it should be for this time of year. I surprise a lot of deer at night, at gates and walking and I have had a lot of “oh no!, dog” moment when they point their ears at me (we don’t have coyotes or wolves on island, or dogs out this end of the farm, which I know, but in the dark when they point towards you like that the deer really can resemble them.

Edit to add: if the three times the height of a house cat is accurate (dang it, now I owe SHRA tax!) then I’m totally off…

@ManueB here is our bantam roo. Good natured and handsome. Calmest bantam roo i have ever seen. View attachment 3372995
Thanks for thinking of the picture. He's very good looking ! Hard to have a sense of his size, he looks to be a bigger type than the Sebright , or at least more bulky ?
The babies should turn really well if they have their mum's color and their dad's personnality- not sure it always works that way though 🤣.

What do you do, @GregnLety , with all those babies Lety hatches when you are not looking ? Do you keep them all, or do you rehome some of them in your neighborhood?
