I think so. Apparently they are fierce defenders (they kick).
It is a big commitment though and I haven’t figured out if I could really take it on. There are donkey rescues I could adopt a donkey from. I have never cared for an animal I can’t lift up so am feeling a bit intimidated by the idea.

Well, if I remember correctly, you are in the process of cleaning out the barn, so it seems there could be housing for a donkey....

I have to say, despite knowing s/he is not good to have around chickens, s/he is a pretty lovely looking fox, and appears quite healthy! Has your squirrel population significantly diminished? If I recall correctly, that was a frequent menu item for lunch and dinner.

The supply chain of squirrels seems to be very robust.
I recognize 3 different individual foxes - there are probably more in residence but I can tell 3 individuals.
They are scary around the chickens but they are very beautiful.

What about a Mini Donkey? I have never dealt with donkey's personally, but Rosie's buddy Malory's dad is looking for a mini jenny. He wants to put it in with the herd of mini horses he has for protection against coyote's. He has had donkey's before and say's the mini's are just as protective and mean as a full size one.

This is a wonderful idea smaller and more manageable but yet still fits the
purpose! Plus they are so so cute .

Is that a current picture of her? She is definitely gearing up to lay. Maybe in another week or so you will find a chocolate egg to go with your olive one.

Thanks! It was a good drive - I only 'almost' went off into the rhubarb once hahaha

It was an awesome day for wildlife also!

First it was a Coyote out in the paddock of a herd of cattle, one of the cows was harassing it hahaha, the coyote was looking very leary - I wanted to take a video but had traffic behind me.

Next it was a Wolf; it ran across the road in front of the truck - thankfully it was far enough in front that I was able to slow down - but it sure was scrambling to get across that road!

Then it was a HUGE moose! I just saw it as I was going past thus again couldn't stop to take photos.

A bit further down the road and there were several horses in the pasture near the road - them I got photos of They were digging through the snow, that is up past their knees, digging for grass. They also have a few mini horses, that I have seen out and about but they tend to be up near the house were the snow is trampled down - they would be lost in that snow hahaha!

Coming back from Peace River I had a Bald Eagle fly over and land in the tree next to the road, but again too much traffic to stop.

Once I got onto the Chinchaga at Km 10 a Great Grey Owl flew in front of me and landed in a tree as I was toodling past, sheesh!

And again at Km 80 I could see a Great Grey Owl roosting on one of the mile markers - I of course slammed on the breaks to take a photo, slid to a stop (no that wasn't the moment I almost went into the Rhubarb) only to have the Owl take one look at me and fly off hahaha - oh well.

Up at Km 120 I was again toodling along and just as I was going by there was another huge moose! By then I was too tired to stop and back up to try for a photo.

As @RebeccaBoyd said mini-donkeys are just as protective as full size donkeys, they have a couple jennys were I keep the horses - but they are ornery little beasts! Not as prone to listening as horses!

If you haven't had experience with horses, but think you might do this - make sure it's an older one (get two they are very herd oriented) that is well trained to lead and to do their feet. They will need their feet trimmed about every 8 weeks or so. Year round!

Donkeys and horses/ponies don't so much as kick predators they are trying to run off - they actually run at the animal and flail their front hoofs, and try to grab and bite them, throw them to the ground and stomp them into oblivion!

It's quite something to see actually - and quite terrifying!

Oreo is spicy today! He rammed into the back of my leg two times when I went into the run to check the buckets of shell, grit, and feed I have out there. He backed down immediately when I turned around. Teenagers!
