I’ve thought a coop panel in their little coop space, even on low, might be too warm otherwise I would set that up. Maybe not on a night like tonight though. But with everyone feathered now they’re probably okay.

What, you are hardly equipped to venture out! Double wool socks! Balaclava, ear warmer headband, retrofitted N95 mask, no skin exposed! Double long johns, wool sweater, fleece hoodie, double windbreaker, leather mittens with wool liners. Then go forth! :lau
What about boots? Or are the double socks enough?

Ya... don't wear running shoes - doesn't end well

Birdie Tax
There were three in there plus a golf ball...

Then mum went out and and there were a total of 5! That's 6 eggs today, 1/2 a dozen... Yep I can count!

Is a friend going with Betty?
No, Betty is sleeping alone tonight.
All my cams are not working. Think I read somewhere they don’t work below -4F?
Mine have never stopped working because of temperature and I have had ambient air temps below -4°F several times. Interesting.

Oh lord. I hadn’t thought about the cameras atopping working. I know they won’t charge in the cold but I didn’t know they didn’t work. Ugh.
I think after this experience I may invest in a second flat panel heater so I can have one at ground level like you have.
Off out to put my space heater out in the coop now everyone is in bed.
Socks, scarf, hat and gloves are all needed for that task.
Please keep checking the cameras. I want to validate this so working thing. I just haven't had that experience.

So far it looks like the cameras are working fine but the battery draw is more than usual.
I now remember the Xmas cold period (when my pipes burst) the cameras never stopped working and it was down to about 6F.

I don’t know what it was for sure. I assumed bird of prey because she was just gone no blood, nothing just a tiny pile of white feathers and it happened during the day. We live on 8.5 acres most of which is wooded. So it could have any of those you mentioned.

Oh yes, we are doubling down on securing the run. Quickcrete is drying in the hole they escaped from and when it dries hardware cloth skirting will be added along that whole wall. The lower portion of the enclosure is also being reinforced and inspected as we go. Boards are being added along the bottom of the run to push the hardware cloth down. Washers and screws will be added to reinforce the staples.
If this results in a safer coop then the lesson was not wasted. I made a lot of improvements after the suspected weasel got sweet Maleficent.
