Flash laid her first egg of the season. Noticed the trauma on my thumb cuticle. It took a rat snap trap.

Geez. You are lucky it didn’t break your thumb. A mouse snap trap left me looking like that - the rat sized ones are terrifying.
I was just looking at designs for a wood box to put the snap traps in so the chickens and cats are safe. It is always a palaver setting snap traps because I have to exclude the pets. If I build a box that the mice can get into but not the pets that will make it a lot easier.
Hope your thumb heals fast. And be careful!!!

I have used an upside down milk crate with the snap trap under it to keep the chickens safe. It did the job.

Thats really smart. I use these plastic ones that are completely black, theres a small opening and you place the bait inside. Then it shuts and the mouse trap gets set off.
There is a green and red flag at the top, if its red its not set and if its green something is caught.

Love this because its not really a hazard and its not so nasty, but hate its not reusable. I saw a guy picking up about 30 in the store so we don’t buy them very often.

I have two kinds. Regular Victor snap traps that I reuse a few times before discarding. And fancy electric ones which are really easy but seem to break down after a while. The electric ones are safe around pets. The snap traps need to be covered somehow or other.

Im especially worried about the snap traps around here because i have some very tiny Japanese bantam chicks with broody chickens hatching them.

I would use catch and release for larger animals and i would walk outside seeing the baby chicks all running in the cage stepping on the sensor trap.
The broody hen was having a panic frenzy but her rebellious little chicks wouldn’t listen because mom can’t fit so she can’t bust them!

She did her little chirps calling them out and they were talking away paying no mind, then all of the sudden she made a very loud chirp that seemed angry. They all stopped and ran under her in awkward silence. They never did it again after that.

:lau Its all the rage right now!

Are you away from home?
Yes I work in northern Alberta but it’s been a so far really good winter, mild not a lot of snow… really nice for up here where -40 is the usual!

I have my barn cams at home so I can keep an eye on the chooks and scream at rats in the barn haha!

I was reading about this breed earlier this evening. Absolutely beautiful and BIG and ohh so fluffy! Imagine the Fluffy Butt Friday pics you will have @Ponypoor ❤️
Imagine Fluffy with 5 of them raising them 😆 they will be as big as her in a months! Haha!
