I did

Not know any of that. I am so sorry about Sally! I need to see the chicks!! Sally was an old girl! Horses don't normally live that long. It scares me because two horses at my barn are 23, but they are still holding strong! I am so very sorry about Sally
Thank you - yes she was an old gal, but I like to think she had a good life with me.

Here is a link to Rebecca's wee chicks - they are Legbars, and the mama hen is a Silkie who adopted them :)

Good afternoon everyone.
I have some sad news to report today. Last night I lost little Athena to a monster Raccoon. It was after midnight and the chickens out of the blue started screaming their heads off. By the time I got my shoes on and out the back door I spotted it packing Athena's body towards the creek bank. Thankfully my dogs were right behind me and they tree'd the evil beast in the mimosa tree. He is no more and will never have another chicken dinner. To make it worse I woke up this morning to also find that overnight for no reason I can find the smallest of Chiquita's leghorn babies passed as well. I am at a complete loss with that one. I have to think there was something wrong with it because it was noticeably smaller then the others and the only one who had yet to manage to fly out or in the tote on it's own. I buried Athena and the leghorn together beside Daisy. The evil raccoon did not deserve to be buried, he is in a garbage bag to be picked up Monday morning. Poor Ducky is beside herself. Athena was her partner in crime and she has looked for her all day. In a day or two she will be alright. Perdita and Grackle have been trying to hang out with her and she will for a time. Then she splits off and goes back to searching for Athena.
Oh no! how sad for poor Ducky :( and of course for you and your family. And the wee baby, you are likely correct - if it was small and weakly it likely had an issue. I am so sorry for your sorrows. ❤️

Well that was exciting. Babs's monster 2nd egg did indeed have two yolks. I have never seen that before! I ate it sunny side up on toast for lunch.
Now stupidly I cracked her small first egg into the pan first, so now I am confused whether I ate two or three eggs for lunch!
It was fun to have, but I do hope she doesn't make a habit of laying big double-yolk eggs.
Thanks Babs for your contribution to lunch! My one Silkie laid a couple of them, but I haven't seen one from her in over a year. Thankfully!

Oh Rebecca I am sorry you lost Athena. I am glad you were able to nab the raccoon that got her. The baby you know was likely failure to thrive, it had the best mama if it could have made it it would have. :hugs
