Now that pretty boy looks like a Bielefelder - but feathers on the legs... maybe he has some in his past ❤️

I was checking my kiddos on the barn cam and of course Mr P and Misty decided it was a good time to have a good time ! This is why I don't show people my chickens on the barn cam haha!
Well, I’m pretty sure there’s some meatbird (Chunk’s son?) and Marans in there somewhere. Little Fluff/Scarface has certainly turned out to be a lovely Rooster. Even if his mom did hatch out 2/2 cockerels! 😆

Yes they were. Very much so. I should have known he was a rooster way before I did.
Denial is a powerful thing… lol no my little Chickie isn’t a boy… never, my only olive egger has to be a pullet. Until little Chickie Hawk started crowing and took a chunk out of my cheek; I insisted he was a pullet for far longer than was reasonable! 😂

Happy Caturday
😂 oh my word, the ad in the background! I’m playing this for DH when he gets home! That’s the most expensive medication he is on right now, which because it’s still under patent isn’t covered by pharmacare… he’s currently discussing with the PACH clinic about getting an exemption for it. His specialist said to contact them once we got him on the pharmacare about it, but looks like the rest of the team didn’t get the memo. If she finds out he’s not been taking it because it’s so expensive and they didn’t forward his request to her… she’s the top cardiologist in the province, and she has a reputation for being a little “assertive” shall we say?

Also, he’s the oldest surviving patient of his particular heart surgery, one of the first to actually survive it, and he’s lived for over 40 years after it… there are less than 150 people in the province who have the same set of heart issues as him. Still crazy that because the med is blended, and under patent with no generic available it is covered… viagra is 100% covered, but a heart med that literally keeps people alive isn’t? Government BS!

Tax, Squeak: the newest boy who survived because he was born so late in the season he was too small to send in for processing (he’s still on cockerel “probation”)

Good afternoon everyone.
I have some sad news to report today. Last night I lost little Athena to a monster Raccoon. It was after midnight and the chickens out of the blue started screaming their heads off. By the time I got my shoes on and out the back door I spotted it packing Athena's body towards the creek bank. Thankfully my dogs were right behind me and they tree'd the evil beast in the mimosa tree. He is no more and will never have another chicken dinner. To make it worse I woke up this morning to also find that overnight for no reason I can find the smallest of Chiquita's leghorn babies passed as well. I am at a complete loss with that one. I have to think there was something wrong with it because it was noticeably smaller then the others and the only one who had yet to manage to fly out or in the tote on it's own. I buried Athena and the leghorn together beside Daisy. The evil raccoon did not deserve to be buried, he is in a garbage bag to be picked up Monday morning. Poor Ducky is beside herself. Athena was her partner in crime and she has looked for her all day. In a day or two she will be alright. Perdita and Grackle have been trying to hang out with her and she will for a time. Then she splits off and goes back to searching for Athena.
Good pups. Good dispatch. And I’m sorry you lost Athena and the little one. It doesn’t ever get easy, I think… at least I don’t think it ever will for me.
