New Roosting Location

Betty is not roosting with the other chickens tonight in either of the coops and run. It took me forever to find her.

That's right. She is in Hattie House. But not on either of the roosts. She is sleeping in the nest box on the ceramic eggs. Phyllis has been laying in there. I wonder if Betty is about to start.

i just closed up Hattie House and left her there. She is safe but will have to wait for me to let her out in the morning.

Roosting time at FBA is just nuts.

Lady Featherington is roosted with both Sydney and Aurora on the high roost tonight. Glynda and Phyllis are alone in the Cluckle Hut.

This whole group is just wacky. I was scared to death trying to find the both of them. I could not see Lady Featherington between the two of them on the cameras. I had to go out with a flashlight. And then Betty was no where to be found. Adult beverages are needed. :barnie
Try being 4,000km away hahaha! Today I was yelling at Fluffy for pecking on poor Blanche! Then there was a scuffle and Fluffy was deposited onto the floor! Oi boy…… she is fine, me not so much.

Small amount is better than no amount.

And, of course it varies with the temp/condition of the snow, but the general rule of thumb is 10" snow - 1" H2O

so, if you have a 5qt crock pot (approx. 4,800 ccs, or 160 oz) you should get about 480 cc or 16 oz of water.

so, load up that crock pot tonight, when you get up n am, pour melted snow (now H2O) into a container, and load'er up again!:D

You know, kind of like the shampoo bottle instructions = lather, rinse, repeat...:gig:gig

For 1 gal. flush, you will only need to do that 🤔8 times is all. Not too bad!😝
awesome! Only 8 times! Glad it’s only -12 and not -32! Otherwise the snow would be like cement 😁

I am told they will be out around 8 to fill the tank. And I will make sure it’s filled on Friday. My neighbour has been doing a lot of washing of clothes so he needs to tame that down a bit! Esp on the weekends.

Darn Creature!

Curly is getting bold about being up on the high nest boxes - she hops up the stairs, across the roost, and then up on top of the nest boxes and hops down onto the shelf, checks out the nest box, the hops back up on top of the box... back and forth. And then she launched herself down to the floor - which really freaked me out!!!

Doesn't she know that she flies like crap ? and that she makes me panic to see her up there?!

Lay that egg and get down!

Look at it this way: she has confidence in herself...

Today we cut a door in the coop wall so I can gather eggs from the outside. Hopefully they'll continue laying on the right spot. Gave them some new hay in the run, which made for some happy chooks and discussed the new run...which will be 8' wide and 12' deep...about double our hoop run. And unlike the current one it'll be predator-proofed. Looking forward to it! Here's a couple short videos (with my husband putting in his 2 cents.)
You have a roo....broody on fertile eggs=more chickens...

Sure will!

I am enjoying watching your marshmellows and their growing feathers - sure hope that Chiquita is ok with them flying up on things she can't reach - poor Henny was beside herself when her chicks kept flying up onto the round bale she couldn't get up onto hahaha! I had to lift her up with them.
Chiquita is used to chickens flying. Henny....not so much. She may very very different with chicks now.

Awwwww :) Good Chiquita! Henny was like that - I think she enjoyed showing off 'her' babies 💕

I am sure hoping I have at least a couple of the gals broody when I get those chicks, and I bet if I showed Henny those chicks she would instantly go broody :)

I bet that Dorothy would be a great mama too - and I am sure she would have not problem covering 5 of the chicks being a good sized hen.

My luck though, no one will be broody :hmm
I still try to get the chicks into the coop by 2 weeks in a look but don't touch set up and running with the tribe as soon as possible. The adults teach the littles soooo much that I can't.

Yes. I really am thinking of getting more this spring.
My target flock size has always been around 8 and I am still only at 3. There is ooodles of space so that isn’t a worry.
I just need to decide how many, what kind, where from, and when. Details, details!!
If you include an older roo like Mr P, you won't have to deal with the teenage drama...
