That looks like a great idea. The only down side I can think of to this set-up is that since the electric netting doesn't go all the way to the ground, it would be easier for a digging predator to dig under the fence without getting zapped. Otherwise, this looks like a very cool solution!
Most of the electric nets have a bottom wire that is not live.
The trick (so I have been told) is to bait the fence with something like bacon fat or peanut butter on a piece of foil so that the predators get zapped in their nose and don’t come back. It is basically training the predators to avoid the fence.

So, turns out I was scammed. I am normally as suspicious as they come. However, this place had over 400 followers on FB hundreds of posts and pictures. Site said all the right things. No indication they were not what they appeared to be. I am absolutely mortified. But I am sharing it anyway because I hope as spring chick fever gets us and those close to us, don't forget to be on guard.

So no Brahma pics just disappointment on multiple levels. :(
Oh no! That is just awful. I feel so bad for you. Did they make off with your cash and any credit card details? Or just mess with your head and leave you disappointed?
People are just awful. Why do that. UGH.

Oh, I am livid with them and myself. I am sitting with it for a few days so I approach it with a cooler head then I currently can muster. I have reported it to FB and to the app I used to pay, I believe I will get my money back in the end it will just take a couple of weeks. I will report it everywhere I can though to prevent others from being taken in. I found out I am not the only one they got not by a long shot. They have been booted from our local group.
How did you figure it out? So awful.

I'm so sorry it happened to you. The same happened to me just before Christmas. We were thankfully able to stop the payment and reported them and had them banned from the group they were posting in. It all worked out in the end. If it were not for that unfortunate incident, Chiquita would not have her marshmallows.

Well heres how they got me and how I finally figured it out. I joined Southern Ohio BY Poultry FB group. I posted what I was searching for hoping to buy locally vs a big hatchery. Someone messaged me referring me to a homestead that had what I was looking for. I went to their FB page. It “checked out” pictures of beautiful birds, ducks, ect everything you would expect to see on a homesteading FB page. 400+ followers, 100’s of posts. I messaged them and they said they had pullets and they had shipping available. I asked about their NPIP status and a few other questions about their breeding practices and all were answered normally. I decided not drive with 2 small kids for 6 hrs and said ship them. Then paid via Venmo. Well the shipper contacted me asking for additional money which I refused to do and it was then I realized I had been had. I have a pending scam claim in with Venmo, I think will be successful. I messaged the leader of the FB group and found out they had already been booted for the group for scamming others. I reported their page to FB as a scam. Today I will see what other authorities I can notify and do so. The money I lost isn’t very much and I may still recover it from Venmo, but more importantly Ill do all I can to stop them for doing it to others.

Oh no! I am very glad you figured it out quickly.

Hello everyone,

Been playing the catching-up-this-thread game. Congratulations to Bernie @RoyalChick Sorry @GregnLety about your sweet fat lady's passing. Congratulations to @Ponypoor and @knoturavggrl on getting brahamas. Congratulations to @TX Chick Noob on getting chicken time. I loved Rebecca's videos. I am sure I have missed lots of important events.

Chicken math has gotten to us. (No, it is more like we are fed up with city and its anti-chicken attitude). We are going to buy land and be farmers!!?? A new adventure?? For now, the plan is to buy land 30 minutes away, live in a trailer, sell our current house, and start to build a house in new land. And we will have LOTS OF chickens. Yummy yummy. We will still be working fully, so no, not farmers, but I will be starting a permaculture dream on my land.

I have no pictures, but I do have a precious broody video from last year, which seems very appropriate for spring.

I hope everyone is having a good night.

As @BY Bob said, sounds similar to @Kris5902 . My DH and I got a warm shell of a cabin (nothing more, no water) just up the road from our severely dilapidated, freezing cold rental and built the shell out into a liveable space over a summer. Moved in with a mattress on the floor before winter.

Today when the chickens were out (brrr, it’s cold here right now), I noticed these three (from foreground to background: Buttercup, Little Mill, Roxy) in a row. These are the remaining three from Lucky’s group of six. ❤️

Oh so beautiful. I am always amazed at the variety of the colour patterns with their feathers - so lovely ❤️
