Well, we got actual snow that stuck. Not tons, as I’m just over 1000 feet. Last time this happened was about 12+ years ago when we were over 2000 feet. This is unheard of here. Main highway is closed at the summit in both directions!

I invited the chickens to come out and explore it and it was a big “Nope! Are you nuts?”

Our power is out, so my Wi-Fi is down but I’ll post photos later.
Oh dear - that's just crazy and strange! I heard it was cold there with snow. I need to get in contact with my cousin in Bakersfield still. Haven't had a chance to.

OK you stay warm and be safe - your chooks are smart ha!

Can you harass them with throwing things at the nest and generally making it inhospitable !??
I'm pretty sure harassing eagles is illegal - even if they're harassing you first. I'd love to have eagles nesting. I can't let the chickens out for fear of hawks. May as well up the ante to eagles.
We’re also expecting a week of rain. Maybe California will finally pull out pl
I did manage to get the girls out a couple
short times today between rain,

Someday I'll get all the breeds in my head...but not yet. What type of chicken is the next to last picture? I'd love to see another view of her! They're all gorgeous!

I'm so glad Friday is here! I have no new chickens to post pics of. But there's this:

Bacon, mushroom and spinach quiche. The joy of having extra eggs. 😍

My cousin is getting all my eggs while I am out here working. She has 5 dozen in her fridge and I told her be prepared for an onslaught of eggs in the coming weeks as everyone seems to be ramping up production ha!

At the moment I am averaging 5 eggs a day, that's 50 eggs in 10 days! Before I had chickens I never gave egg laying any thought - who knew they laid one practically every day! I am awash in eggs 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚x10....

Hello, good people of FBA!
I'm back for Friday ! Like @micstrachan we are really hoping for a lot of snow from Sunday onward to relieve our drought. January and February have been months of historical winter draught in France and we are located in one of the worse region, though we're lucky our village has a number of streams. We've been planting as usual the first stuff, garlic, onions, peas and favas... but if the water restrictions begin in March it won't be possible to grow our food like we normally do 🙁. Crazy weather everywhere make me feel so anxious.
I'm sorry for your magnolia @BY Bob. We track and note every year the dates of all our trees coming to buds / blooms and it's obvious we are going to have to plant only late bloomers, or smaller trees that can be kept as shrubs so we can protect the buds from freezing, for the same reason you mention.

I was sad to learn of your deception @knoturavggrl especially since you were really eager to get these brahmas. The fact that it also happened to @RebeccaBoyd makes me wonder if it's a common scam, and think that maybe it's worth making a post on BYC to warn others?

@Ponypoor sorry for not answering you and I hope you are feeling better today ?
@ValarieF I hope the new med works better so you don't kill anyone 😉. In the meantime.... try to stick around with your chickens. I usually don't mind going through days and weeks without seeing anyone but my partner and my chickens and cats except when my chickens overdo it on the drama.

Pictures of the week :
Mugs : lots of rooster drama these past days.

And finally, in advance for Sunday, two very foggy pictures from this morning. You really can't almost see them at all but I've been trying to get a picture for ages and they are always too high up. My neighbors highland cows in the mountains. And in the second picture a calf and her mum broke through the electric fence and were in big conversation with See you, the arabian horse next door 🤣.

Glad to hear Theo is taking my advice hahaha! Your kiddos are so lovely :)

Wow those Highland Cattle are awesome, and the Arab seems to be making friends it looks like.

It sure does look dry there, it's also been dry here, we have snow but not much. If there is a foot on the ground that's about as much as it is. I just saw on the News about Venice and the canals going dry - wow!

It seems to me that the weather is just bonkers - all over the place. But one thing is for sure - we can't change the weather!

Oooooo those are wonderful! I especially love that second last photo what lovely colouring. I can't remember his name... ?
He isn't named. The one I had last spring/summer had to be put down. :( He is one of this past year's broody hatched. He looks completely like a DC coloring wise, etc, but he isn't as heavy set as DC (I'm assuming he is 1/2 DC & 1/2 EE, (mom/dad) HE will let me pick him up. Not fond of it, initially, but settles down once he is in my arms. :)

Wish you could send some!

Between Monday and Thursday I got 11 eggs from my 3 girls. There's 2 dozen in the fridge, after 7 in the quiche. I'm glad they last a long time and our neighbors are glad of the overflow.
