Well, I’ve been sick the last Day and a half with a flu/cold somethingrather that DH brought home on Sunday which knocked him out for three full days. Yesterday I barely got the chickens out, and then back up again at night. Bonuses to being sick in an RV: it’s three shuffling steps from the bed to the toilet and the bathroom door can be used for support. Today is a bit better, Rainy out, so the goats are settled down in their pen “no outside for us, thanks” there’s some wind, but nothing Crazy. And when I feel up to looking out the window, there’s my old boy Sammy… ❤️

Russ got his feet done Thursday. This afternoon Rosie hopped on him and rode him a bit. When she was finished I decided it was time to see if my back would handle me riding. I was on at a walk for maybe 10 minutes. I learned something. First I am out of shape and my legs were like Jell-O when I got off. Secondly, even with numb legs, my back was not hurting. It's official, Rosie is going to have to share her horse, I want on him for a bit every time she rides him.
I was going to ask a while back but was afraid of the answer being 'no - I don't want to ride anymore'.

I am so glad that you are going to be getting back riding! It makes me jealous though - I am still out here and no horses to ride. But soon I will be home, and able to bring my ladies home, and get back into riding :)

Blanche and a few of the others were having a grand time dust bathing this afternoon!

Feel better!

I do think that you should wait as long as you can. The hormone changes might change the dynamics of the whole tribe.
Well, I got sidetracked today. I cleaned the coop, added a 2nd roost to the coop and then rode Russ. No time to contact my family member about Twig. I am dragging my feet, hoping for a shift in flock dynamics. I really really want to keep him. Twig is a good rooster. He is not a lap chicken, and prefers not to be handled. I can and do handle him if I catch him hopping up to the roost. He will immediately settle down while I hold him for a few minutes and then place him on up. He will eat out of your hand if the other boys are not around. He has never once to date had a stupid moment where he thought to charge. Bubba did that a time or two from behind. I always heard him coming and turned around quickly and started walking towards him which stopped him in his tracks. If he has a downfall right now, besides being a wimp, it is he is just a tad overzealous with some of the hens. That is all due to his age, inexperience and hormones so I know he will settle down with that in time.

Thanks! I’ll take a look there.

Once i get things figured out (how to ship, package, and pricing) I would be happy to ship you some if you would be interested. Not sure how long it will take to figure everything out though.
Oh if wishes were eggs - unfortunately not able to ship eggs to Canada easily boohoo :(

Good things come to those who wait

Thank you Eli.

A perfect poop and it wasn’t even on my shoe. I am feeling more relaxed about Eli now, though Lord knows what that previous icky thing was!

They are doing well!

One sprained a leg i believe but is doing well now. The introduction will begin shortly! I’m going to be putting them with the rest of the flock in a few days.
Oh dear - kids! Have to have nerves of steel I tell you!
Like mine who still compete for that really slanted roost bar 😂
hahaha I remember that from your photos!

I’m secretly starting an organization to save the fate of Twiggy. He deserves to stay home where he is. :fl
Or.... maybe have a new home with a loving family to take photos and send to us! and baby chicks.... 💕

I have to agree that 2.5-3’ is more than adequate, and safe, as long as there aren’t any rafter alternatives available they will all adjust and eventually be content with this height. My Chicken Trailer roosts are about this height, although I run deep bedding in the winter and they get “lower” as the floor raises up, I’ve yet to have an injury from falling/flying/jumping… even with the Meat Hybrids, and you don’t get a less athletic chicken build than that (Trouble and Zip Tie are going on 2 or 3 now!)
I am leaning towards the suggestions of a 2.5' roosting shelf, with some nest boxes underneath, and a couple of the bottom ones extended out so that there is a 6-8" wide step for them to jump up on to get to the roost.
