Well, I got sidetracked today. I cleaned the coop, added a 2nd roost to the coop and then rode Russ. No time to contact my family member about Twig. I am dragging my feet, hoping for a shift in flock dynamics. I really really want to keep him. Twig is a good rooster. He is not a lap chicken, and prefers not to be handled. I can and do handle him if I catch him hopping up to the roost. He will immediately settle down while I hold him for a few minutes and then place him on up. He will eat out of your hand if the other boys are not around. He has never once to date had a stupid moment where he thought to charge. Bubba did that a time or two from behind. I always heard him coming and turned around quickly and started walking towards him which stopped him in his tracks. If he has a downfall right now, besides being a wimp, it is he is just a tad overzealous with some of the hens. That is all due to his age, inexperience and hormones so I know he will settle down with that in time.
One might say that you are putting it off to see if things will settle and he can stay.

I say if there is any possibility that he, or his ladies will be injured (bad barn dog...) then sending to a safer location might be a better option. You can always, also, build a run to keep them in... ?

Good things come to those who wait

Thank you Eli.

Well, @Ponypoor worst fear of finding a hidden rotten egg just happened to me. The hay pile has been shifted around and still some of the girls are choosing to lay on top. I saw one in the crack of the hay bales and when I grabbed it I felt another one barely in the crack. Thinking it was todays egg I grabbed it find it was a cracked stinky egg :sick Tossed the stink bomb into the creek and shifted the bales a bit more to see if there were any more. Thankfully not, although 1 was 1 to many.

What an unfortunate surprise! :sick Yuck that smell of a rotten egg is ugly!

This video is long, and I'm sorry it is sort of dark. The Marshmallows discovered their new roost at the edge of dark. They clearly do not need Chiquita to teach them to use those tiny wings of theirs. My camera died as soon as I stopped recording so no pictures. I have it on charge now and after dark I will go back out to see if they end up using it tonight. Judging by Chiquita's reactions, I think she wants them in the tote with her again tonight. I'm so glad Momma Hen is not raising this crew. She has tried and has failed to get Madea up into the tree. The Marshmallows, would follow her with ease right now I think.

Thank you! Adorable love the little peep peeps.
And I assume tomorrow they will all be up on that higher roost.
Poor Chiquita - I think the tote has had its day!

Wow, they are getting big!🥰 And, yup - just took one to see it/find it, and they all went up! 🤷‍♀️

And what ever do you mean, human mum? No roost is the wrong roost if we are able to get to it!!!

WOW - they sure can fly! was that Chiquita bopping along the bottom of the video?

So does Momma Hen roost in the tree in the winter frosty weather also?

:eek::sick

Oh ya hahaha gross - yuck! Yup my big fear - but having seen the size of the dratted rat just now in the barn I am sure any eggs not laid in the nest boxes is likely rat food - likely why this sucker is so huge!

I just cannot wait to get home and zap the beasties! I watch them on the barn cam and get so furious! My co-workers think I am nuts yelling at them on the barn cams hahaha!

They flit about better than songbird fledgling! You're right about Momma Hen. May want to keep an eye on the little darlings when Chiquita's done with them. They might decide to follow Momma on their own...

Hope everyone is doing well. My chicks are getting big Ill have to get photos tomorrow for you. I have been tired and sick all week so my hubby and the dogs are taking care of me and the chickens.
