Hey have you given aspirin to chooks? Blanche must have pulled something or other yesterday, I had them locked in Truly's big stall to keep them out of the way when I brought my nutter horses home. But Blanche, Buttercup and Misty were out, seems that Blanche can actually fly quite well! She flew up onto that stall door and it's over 4' tall!

I noted she has a cut on her one toe on the left, but she is holding her right leg up against her chest and she was laying on her left side in Lulu's stall off that right leg. Also I noted her holding that right leg up against her chest this morning when I went to let them out of the Hen House - I lifted her down from her lofty roost.

So I heard you can give a baby or low dose aspirin - is that true? a whole low dose aspirin?

I might be able to cut this one, problem with these is the enteric coating they put on them.

When I go in town later I am going to see if the pharmacist can compound aspirin for me in smaller doses... I have Meloxicam also, but again that enteric coating issue.
I did give Oreo some for his comb wound. No ill effects at all. I used low dose aspirin one tab. I crushed it and put it in with half of a scrambled egg it was gone in seconds.

Beakbook…
Blanche!!!

I turn my back for one minute and Blanche is logging into beakbook!!!

She was having issues with the mouse…

I need to do some cleaning in this office / feed room / tackeoom

The spiders are taking over!
Keep the girls in there for awhile. They'll clean it.

Blanche - sore leg…?

I brought her into the office to be warm and have some treats

This is how she is holding that one leg.

FYI she isn’t limping at a walk
Always the same leg?
Mine often stand like that because …. Well I have no idea really! Maybe because they can!

Is it Mugshot Monday already?
Two expectant mugs (Eli and Bernie) confirm that it is indeed Monday!
Eli laid again today. It only took an hour and she is full of beans - she just showed off some aerial acrobatics by doing a very snazzy mid-air turn to land right by the kitchen scraps I just brought out.

I have heard that as well, but I don't have the particulars at the moment. However, @RoyalChick posted something on here previously about ibuprofen for pain management in chickens

Well once I picked her up I realized it was the toe on that foot that was bleeding yesterday so I am betting she caught her toe on the door top and not only cut it but likely sprained it.

Thought it was a different toe…

I haven’t given her anything but might for the night time to help her get a good rest.

Went out to work on removing all the dirt from the raised bed. Planning on replacing it with a weed barrier then the current coop muck, then last year's composted down.

It's solid ice an inch under the surface. I don't think I'm going to be getting that done anytime soon. Need a pick axe.

Put shovel, hoe, and long handled fork away in carport. Oh, egg in the semi hidden nest. More broken eggs scattered closer to the entrance. Time to rebuild the area for more shelter.

Behind the washer turned compost bin is an electrical socket with a crock pot water holder plugged in. If need be, I'll stretch the rolled fencing across to the washer to help discourage the magpies.

Refilled crock, coop water bucket and this one.View attachment 3436756

Then saw Nellie checking out the space behind the wood pile....and Lark or Indigo scooted out.

I think I'm in trouble.....
That is a terrible spot for humans

Oh that’s wonderful! Hopefully this is just Something that will work itself out, have to say Blanche freaked me out last year with all those soft eggs, but this past week I have recieved 2 nice eggs from her.

I really thought she was done laying. Seems her hiatus from laying maybe did her good…?

Did you find out anything about hormone treatment for her?
