You know they supposedly nest here with a rookery on Brown Ridge… that little mountain the goats are so fond of trying to drag me to the top of? Just saying if Mrs BY Bob wanted to put in an order for some hatching eggs… 😉 😂 that would probably keep those nasty hawks at bay!

“Frank… come quick you gotta see this! In addition to the small tiger that’s patrolling down there, they’re this really weird looking chicken. No, it’s bigger than a Turkey even… about the size of one of those jerks with the white heads that keep stealing our patented screech for their own propaganda because they actually sound like a little snack, I mean ‘song’ bird.”

“You’re right Joe. That’s the biggest, Scariest Naked Neck Chicken I ever did see! I’m thinking we should change the team motto to ‘winner, winner, squirrel dinner’. It looks like chicken is off the menu for a while”
My gang used to run and hide when they flew overhead, but since I never panicked they figured the vultures were ok, like the bluejays and crows.

Mr P still eyeballs them when they fly over but he doesn’t growl.

But a squirrel was in the spruce tree the other day screaming up a storm which had the chickens all freaked out!

Those make the best mamas! You just have to suffer a few pecks, and get accustomed to them drawing blood on your hand when you hand feed and water them… ask Goldie (yes that noise is her hitting my hand) and she was equally ungrateful for food, water and everything else I did for her for those long weeks. But she’s a great mama!
Ouch! Ouch!

The waterhole...(play on concepts intended)View attachment 3457285View attachment 3457284View attachment 3457283View attachment 3457282The weaving through the legs, stepping on my shoes, and all round busy-ness in close proximity was delightful....except for the tasting of the ankles/feet through the holes in the crocs). I can see gardening will have a super-abundance of management.
yep anything for entertainment, most day that is what I feel I am to them - entertainment!

And for those who are challenged on breed identification (cough cough RC cough cough). He's silver spangled (the markings) and his breed is Appenzeller Spitzhauben (at least that what he appears to be), characterized by the forward leaning crest. Based upon the size of comb and spurs, he's fairly young (in the hormonal idiot age range)
Yes that is what I figured he is, didn’t know there were any here, wonder who they got them from?? I never see any Ads for them, so don’t know of any breeders around here… hmmmm now I wonder if they have chicks….

Just kidding!

Thirsty Thursday
For a thirsty Thursday I bring you this short clip. Mute the sound as there is some issue with the camera microphone so it creates nasty interference noise.
Why is this clip suitable for Thirsty Thursday? Because it is drizzling and they are harvesting rain droplets off the structure of their run.
They do this because their three waterers (yes that is one each) are full of unacceptably clean water from the kitchen faucet.

Update on Wendy
She keeps improving, eating more and gaining more strength. I already have vitamins and electrolytes in water. Will try to feed her yogurt today. Yesterday she still won't accept any food from me, but she was eating on her own. She hates us a little bit because she does not like to take her meds.

Thirsday
Yep, yucky water in the lotus barrel is the best.

Cool! I have to get some pics for Thirsty Thursday!
I didn't mute the mic because I wanted to see if there is interference or feedback. Looks like you were right, it was interference.

Oh that’s is so perfect hahaha! Anything for that wild water! My kiddos were drinking from the puddles yesterday - ewww!

Good morning all!

No takers for drinking water today but it’s a better day today and everyone is outside - well except Marty.

Marty is still thinking of going broody she has taken over her egg from yesterday, and Bittercups egg from today - or maybe she is just hanging out in her box because it’s warmer there…

A Single Tribe Again

All symptoms are gone. The final dose of antibiotics has been given. I have released everyone from isolation and the tribe is one once more.

It was either viral and cleared on its own or bacterial and the enrofloxacin cleared it up. Either way I am celebrating a success. Disaster averted.

I assumed that the Polish were in trouble. They spent yesterday passing in front of the main coop. Back and forth they went. Seeming to taunt those in isolation. I was sure if not Aurora then Sydney would come out and deliver reminders of their place in things.

I was also a little concerned about Hattie. Would Aurora feel threatened by Hattie’s independence.

I was wrong in all of my assumptions.

It may not have been a good thing for Glynda to study under the masters tutelage for 5 straight days. It certainly did Betty no favors.

As soon as she saw Glynda and Lady Featherington come out of the main coop, Betty came over to remind them of their place. Glynda was having none of it. A hen fight very similar to the Hattie v Aurora fight broke out. Sadly I was not ready. I have no video.

It was exceptionally similar because the black hen, in this case Phyllis, tried to break it up. No such luck.

The end result is that Betty lost.

Since the fight Glynda has mounted Betty and chased her again. Again the mounting was so fast I could not get the camera out. I do have some chase video which I will share once I edit it.

I do have video of Hattie reminding the victor of her place beneath Hattie in the order. As soon as the fight was over Hattie took care of that.

I have deep sympathy for poor Betty. It can't be fun to lose like that.

Aurora has pecked no one. There was no need apparently. It is interesting that she may have found her own Sansa.

I am sure there are more events to come. Stay tuned.

Perhaps a statue of the victor is in order.....🤔

Seriously. I do wish her and Phyllis would stay out of that flower pot.
