Oh so adorable. Ok, so Sophia is not a silkie right? That litle one in the front with black legs, its for sure a silkie mix and I am assuming Marty's baby. I cannot begin to tell you how much I needed to see these 3 little peeps. I'm dealing with a emergency situation that is going to have me camped out in the building tonight waiting. I've lost the 2 biggest buff orp girls from Rural king 2 nights in a Row. It ends tonight one way or another and this time I will be waiting as I know what time whatever it is is striking. Around midnight.

Oh no! Oh my gosh that’s terrible how awful 😢 I take it a predator has been at work there - rotten little beggars 😡

I have been keeping my gals inside because of the fox, once the electric fencing gets put up I will feel better. Is there a possibility to put up electric fencing?

Ok well let us know the outcome of your camping out, I am thinking good thoughts for you and your chickies.
20 more minutes for everyone to head to bed and I am going to lock them up. The speed and sneak of the attacks I'm thinking fox or maybe another coyote. I plan to be out in the building beside the coop by 10:30 at the latest tonight with my pot of coffee.

I know tomorrow is Pony Sunday, but Rosie celebrated both the first day of spring break and the fact that Russ's abscess is healed playing in the ring so I got a ton of pictures. Here is just a sneak peak with some of my favorites.

The Kindness of Strangers

Someone was involved in a conspiracy. Whomever you are, thank you so much for the wonderful bushes. The girls will be thrilled when the blueberries ripen. I have always wanted a couple. Now I need to figure out where to plant them and how to keep the feathered vultures from destroying them.

Aww that's lovely!

Meat Chickies

I got my 50 meat chickies from my neighbour today! I made a large brooder that *barely?* accomodates them. They have some space to grow, but the feeders and waterer take up lots of the space. They are much bigger than the other "layer" chicks that hatched on Friday and Thursday. I will have to get pics tomorrow but they are all yellow and so CUTE CUTE CUTE! Once chickies are all floofy and soft they are best to handle. :love

How is it getting into the coop???

Parmesan's Foot Update
So today, Parmesan is doing better. Her foot was actually better yesterday. She's still limping but at least she doesn't have to sit all the time. I guess she was very stressed and upset about her foot that now as she is beginning to walk better, she wants to be her devilish self by biting me (she did end up biting me).
Parmesan wants to lie down in the coop.

Grandma decides to be her coach.

These two won't be any help.

I think I can walk normally now. I'm going to walk over to the trio over there.

Other babies...

@RebeccaBoyd
will be thrilled to hear one of the Marty eggs has hatched and the two Sophia eggs. Just waiting on one more egg, not sure who...

So my plans have again changed, I will not put these chicks in with the current group until they are about a week old and thriving. Which means I need another brooder plate... Or heating pad. Has anyone ever used a heating pad??? I am very nervous about using one.
I used a heating pad and it worked really well. It is critical to make sure you get one that doesn’t automatically shut off. Sunbeam still makes one of you can get it in Canada, model 731-500. There are a couple of good threads on making a “momma heating pad” cave. You just need something to make a fairly rigid frame that you can attach it to, preferably at an angle and some way to adjust the height. Here are a few pics of mine. The heating pad is sandwiched between the frame and some hardware cloth to keep it in place. I strapped a kitchen towel on the underside to give them something soft to snuggle against. Another towel that I covered with Press and Seal is draped on the top. They loved snuggling under it, and also laying on top of it.

Prayers for my brother in law Mike. He had a heart attack yesterday, he coded but they revived him. All positive thoughts are appreciated 🙏❤️
Will definitely send healing thoughts for Mike.

Oh no! Hope you manage to take care of the culprit.

True, but you also have an extensive area for them...and one has decided that burrowing is the way to go, not flying - I suspect it is because flying over that piddly little fence isn't a challenge :lau :lau :lau
To be fair she only burrowed where there was no room to fly - tight around the base of the shrub!
But yes. Flying the fence not enough of a challenge.
I am quite surprised how close to home they like to stay when foraging. It is actually only Bernadette who I have encountered sauntering along the driveway and I have no idea how she got out.
