Sorry to hear this, it’s always hard having pets 🥺 harder when they have to be rehomed.

I am sorry to hear about Ginger. But, think of this - if she was still with you, probably Inky wouldn't be. You did what was best for your flock overall. I know it was hard at the time for you to rehome her, and you loved her, so it is human nature to second guess yourself - but don't.

If your friend is close enough could you go over and check out Ginger, and maybe try feeding a bit of coconut oil and massaging her crop...showing your friend how to do it??? (hopefully it isn't too late...but a number of people have had success with this.)

:hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

What bgmathteach posted is totally correct regarding you did what was best for your flock as a whole. If it is indeed sour crop maybe it isn’t too late to treat with “yeast infection” cream. There are lots of threads in how to do that in the emergency/illness section.

I cannot imagine how you feel. The only chickens I have ever given up were Ned & Lucky. I knew they were going to a good home. Lucky has since moved on again.

I steeled myself that once I said goodbye, I was saying goodbye. I was doing the best I could for them.

One or the other of Ginger or Inky could not stay. You faced a true Sophie's choice. You made the decision that was in the best interest of your flock. You found Ginger the best home you could. The bullying ended and your flock was at peace. All of this is true.

I know it certainly does not make it easier but it is true. We can only do our best. Frequently, it simply is not enough.

We all have to live with these choices. I'm so sorry the outcome is not as you would have wished. :hugs :hugs :hugs
Thank you all for the comforting words.

My friend lives pretty close. I feel like I will need to take Ginger back to give her proper care though. I went to her house on Friday and I did not see Ginger. In retrospect, I am afraid she was already ill (so hiding underneath somewhere) at that time.

My friend is taking care of her too. I kinda want to take Ginger back but there are many other concerns associated with this action.

That is for you because I know you are struggling with what to do here.

I have a hen that is called Ginger! Sorry, I was caught up doing barn duties so I didn't see this.

I will be out in the yard, cutting worms in half (mowing the lawn) the birds always follow me around everywhere when I need to mow the yard.

Why not let the chickens mow the lawn for you? Anyway, it is part of The Way Of The Chicken to turn everything that is any color brown. Everything must be brown, even the color brown. :lau

I know what I am dealing with now, and missed him last night. Huge coyote, startled me and I thought it was my CeeCee coming out of the creek until I saw the ears. Was not outside yet as it was about 10:30 and the chickens went crazy so threw on the light and made it to the bottom step out back when I spotted it. By the time mom got out with the shotgun he was already back across the creek and she saw him for 2 seconds before he got out of sight. Thankfully year round open season and no limits on coyotes, we'll get him.
Glad you've at least seen him. Any way you could keep the shotgun near the door (top of the closet or something) until you get him?

Sorry about my absence. I saw that Meeko went missing. Sending hugs. I pray that you find her. I also saw that you found a coyote. Prayers that you kill it. :hugs:hugs
Everyone at my place is fine. One of my guineas, Pie, is starting to lay eggs. Two of my baby guineas are also laying. There is a rat snake in my coop AGAIN.
Willow is a psychopath, but I love her. I'm not getting that many eggs because of the snake.
Bolt is happy, like normal.
Pastel attacked me yesterday, but I pinned him down, as I am going to do for a few weeks.
Splotch gave me a huge scare a few days ago. She started shaking her whole body, head included. I freaked out and snatched her up. She has been fine after that.
BBQ is crazy I may take her to the vet, because her skin is very irritated and her bumblefoot is back for the 4th time.
I've been training my dogs, and they are doing really well. They have separation anxiety now, but they are handling the loss of Coach pretty well.
I was wondering what you have got up to.... Glad to hear things are ok on your end.

Another snake - wow! Snakes are just starting to come out of hibernation around here, I rather like snake!

So sorry to hear that BBQ is feeling poorly - or pets sure do try us at times don't they.

Hmmmmm - well she has been away for some time now and thus would be a newcomer and at the lower end of the pecking order.... might work now that your others gals are all older and established.
