Yes, 7 is a great number! She is the alpha hen, she dominating poor Babs who is willing to submit. If you got a Roo that will likely stop.
Or get a few more hens to shake things up. 3 is a hard number for any group or herd - better to have 6 or 7 ( like bob does)
Oh no. That sounds like trouble. I sure hope it picks up soon.We had an unusual incident last night. Sometime yesterday one of the baby turkeys escaped their box and got stuck behind our fridge. In the process it got one of it's wings hung up and broken. We wrapped the one wing to it's body and gave it honey water. It perked up immediately and we hand fed wet chick starter. It survived the night but we are having to hand feed and dip it's beak in water to get it to drink. I'll post a pic shortly.
It's not really trouble.Goose has 2 chicks out. One of her own eggs hatched and it is black as can be. She also hatched out her momma's silkie egg. I will know for sure in about a week when the feathers come in, but, I do believe this one is a pure silkie and is a Branch chick. The chick is partridge colored and I know I should not get that from a liaison with my Marans Bubba. First thing I thought of when I saw that chick was Ezzie. Goose still has 2 more eggs to go. Both of Gryffyns eggs have also pipped, now it is just a waiting game. I will go out in a little bit to get pictures of the first 2 out. You all, I am in serious trouble if the partridge chick is in fact a pure silkie and is a boy.
$10 bucks says they breach your fortification! (Right after the blueberrys ripen)
That is just the best news!So now the turkey chick is eating and drinking on its own. Here's a picture of it relaxing after it's breakfast. View attachment 3478329
Letting them out depends entirely upon their momma's. I would prefer they stay where I want them for a few days but that does not always happen. It does me no good to try to confine them to the coop when the momma's are pacing wanting out. They end up stepping on the chicks in their desperation to get them out of the coop. Chiquita I can keep up for a few days no problem. Holly, Bunny, Momma hen want out and about as soon as they hatch. This is Goose's and Gryffyn's first time so I have to take their cues.Well hello everyone! How are you all today - are you ready for the day? That's a pretty swanky place you have there!
I just brushed Reenies mane, it was all tangled and knotted so I got the scissors to it mwahahahaha - she now has a pixie cut, no long flowing locks for like this pony hahaha.
Will have to post photos when my darn tootin phone will connect to the network again.
Be a girl, be a girl, be a girl, be a girl, be a girl, be a girl, be a girl, be a girl, be a girl...
OK I have pled with the Fates for lovely wee girl for you.
Can't wait to see them out and about in a few days, you're so fortunate to have nice weather down there so they can get out! I hope when I shove some chicks under Curly and Fluffy the weather improves so they can get them out and about.
How many days do you wait until you let them go out and about? I waited about 2 weeks with Henny Penny mostly because it was late October and chilly.
Oh silly wee sweet thing. Well it is in good hands with you, and being young it should heal pretty fast. In a couple weeks she should be running around with her hatch-mates.
Wonderful. Thank you.Texas lawman armadillo silly tax:
