The best solution is really more chickens. That way Bernie can share the love and not wear out one lady. Just like a rooster would. 4 more hens would be just right.
Actually, I think 5 more would be better - give her an even 8 so there isn't an 'odd one out' so to speak.

OR, if she can get a roo, 5 pullets and a cockerel. I think she has said that 8-12 would be a good number for the Palace, no?

Just had a LARGE crow swoop back and forth across the driveway. Then it landed. I happened to be standing at the glass door watching, phone across the room, so no pics. Lark and Indigo, the 2 smallest hens, (and smaller than the crow) took turns charging it with tails spread (they looked like broody mamas). It gave ground, then decided discretion was the better part of valor, so it took off after the 4th charge. If either one turns broody, she'll be a FIERCE mama! Maybe they will co-brood...:fl
Chickens are fierce! Ask my cat!

Or a bonnet.

Only $4.80 on Etsy and the green would match her legs. Actually I think I could even crochet that myself.
