When I was in Egypt I never saw any of those hahaha, lots of regular Ol chickens- barred rocks, RIR types, etc. and an annoying rooster who woke everyone up at 4am.

I wonder who over there breeds/keeps them, it’s a developing country and people over there don’t care if something is a pure breed (except for the Arabian Horses whos bloodlines are controlled by the Egyptian Ag Org), it must be ex-pats living there who are maintaining this as a breed. I would love to know more about their history!
This is why I'm happy to have them. I'm in the hot and dry southwest.

Kind of interesting you never saw them. I always thought their attribution to Egypt was a sales tactic, hehehe. But I'm just a natural skeptic.

First morning it's warm enough (sort of at 38F) and nice enough (clear skies and temp supposed to be mid 60sF) to have at least some of my coffee outside.

Took Think out to breakfast unmolested in the garden. The boys can't figure out how to get to her inspite of being in there on Sunday and the gate open. Not sure at this distance it it's Nox or Mera in with her, but that one got in on her own.

As I was coming back inside (toes getting cold), Thing went through the fence again (no worries about her getting stuck). Hector cam rushing up to try his luck with her. She turned and ran back up the hill to Kren who jumped at Hector. It appears she's finally deciding that Kren, while not entirely ok in her book, is more appealing than Hector. And Kren is doing his rooster duty and protecting his lady from the others. He still needs to work on his courting tactics, but there's hope for him yet.

I've thought about them too. Fantastic free range, don't do well with confinement, very alert....They're perfect for me! Oh, wait! Fayoumis are from Egypt and don't do well with cold temps. Drat! So much for that idea. If we ever move someplace without snow/freezing winter temps, they're going to the top of the list as long as keeping chickens in a free range (no run) environment is a possibility.
You should consider Dark Cornish! Although, your temps get really cold.🤔 They are hard feathered, so not sure...but they do have pea combs.

They are also quite alert, good foragers, and I've had a good percentage go broody (not all) - although that ISN'T something you necessarily need more of:gig. Also, they have a broader breast (they are the Cornish part of Cornish rock X (cornishX) I think they are smart, curious, and the extra roos make a decent table bird (compared to some of the very skinny roos of other breeds. My hubby sometimes says 'This is a lot of work for a couple drumsticks!" Because the young roos of other breeds, while decent size height/frame wise, don't have a lot of meat on them - except their drumsticks/thighs.

Just my 2 cents. I am biased, though, because I like them...differently, but just as much as my Rocks
