I would not like them crossing the street at all.
Right!?!
We live on a pretty quiet street, but a few people drive very fast into our culdesac, especially the younger drivers that live here.
Edit: yes I am always warning them about dogs! We don't get too many roaming free, but one neighbor regularly walks his off leash.

I am back. Apparently it is chickie nap time and they don't want to play any more! So, more of @ChicoryBlues questions.

I got them from a breeder in PA. It was a couple of hours drive for me. Sort of between me and Bob. If I hadn't been sick I might have thought about a visit - but maybe with the whole quarantine thing better not. He isn't a big organization but he has a farm with a number of breeding birds - and then he hatches and broods in his basement. He specializes in breeds he likes. He is interested in genetics but is definitely in the amateur breeder category. If you DM me I am sure he wouldn't mind me sharing his contact info.

And yes, vaccinated against Marek's (not anything else). I did a long post on this thread about Marek's a while back which goes into a lot of geeky stuff so I don't want to clog the thread - if you DM me I am happy to debate - but I am very certain it is the right thing for me to do in my flock situation. The reason the little dears are quarantined in my bathroom is that I am waiting a few more days for the vaccine to take effect.

Here is my prior post on geeky Marek's stuff: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26642172

And now, to prove to @RebeccaBoyd that I have gone to the dark side here is photographic evidence of feathery legs. I can’t believe I did this. I really hope I don’t regret it! I was clearly in no fit state yesterday to be making big decisions like choosing chicks!

Thank you. I might DM you about the breeder. I think vaccinated for Marek's is what I would want to do too, with my group, given where I am and the chickens around my neighborhood. I was under the impression that in general private breeders can't afford to give vaccinations due to the volume and cost of the shots, so that the hatcheries had the upperhand there, anyone seeking vaccinated chicks had no other choices.

It really is amazing and so cool you get to watch it by candling. Like a sonogram but without the 1500.00 charge. 😂

I let the crew out into the run this morning and went to inspect it throughly and it’s working very well, no issues but one so far.

The issue is the other pullets have decided that since they cant lay their eggs in Brownies bowl any longer they will lay them between the coop wall and the tent, as close to her as possible. 🤦‍♀️

Ill manage seeing as how it’s temporary but its always something!!
Put another bowl down there to help keep the eggs contained.

Hope your neighbours are good with the chicken visit! I am not too sure about my neighbours to the south of me, and last year they hightailed it over to their place - I had to chase after them - and quietly herd them home hahaha!

Glad no one around here has dogs that roam...

I now have a lineup for laying in the one nest box -
Ours don't visit the neighbors. Their dog is too loud. Scared the eggs out of Agathae.

Smaller breeders use a different vaccine from the big hatcheries. Supposedly the ones the big hatcheries use is newer and better, but in reality there are puts and takes on that and of course big hatchery comes with other things about breeds and shipping etc., many of which are negatives for me.
Happy to chat in DM about it.

I called the dr and got in this afternoon. My hubby came home from work to take me. I cant take this anymore. want to know whats wrong and lots of pain meds!
