I have a sad situation with Eli.
She lost her balance and fell off the roost in the night. This morning she is clearly having trouble walking.
I don't think she is egg bound this time.
As you can imagine I am devastated. I will swab for Marek's, it has to be considered a possibility.

It could be either, or both, and neither is good. I'm sorry.
The swab is good to narrow the possibilities. Then if you have access to a vet I wonder if she could have an x-ray done to see?

How goes the hunt for your new place?

It is currently in a pause because of my upcoming 2-month long trip out of the country.

We got a chicken permit a month ago so nobody is going to take our sweeties away for now I think it is terrible that you have to ask for "permission" to have chickens but at least it was easy to get one.

The silver lining is that we moved the coop and run in the permit application process and the new location is better for the chickens and us.

Definitely still want to get our own land this year.

Your chickens are beautiful.
It's your land. You should be able to keep chickens if you want. Permits to keep an animal are horrible.

Sydney did a good job

You all saw the video where Sydney taught the chicks, as soon as they could fly, to go up, to roost and use height to their protection. She taught them so well they are using it all the time. Including someplace I really don't want them, the table!

Darn chooks. Hen-Rietta spilled the beans on the rest of the tribe. She laid her egg in the yard, made a big fuss about it, and I went to investigate. I found a clutch of 16 fresh eggs under some weeds.
