Ok, I think I caught up with the thread. Man, I'm starting to think I lucked out with roosters. He only crows a couple times in the morning, and I barely hear him. Makes me feel like I'm a real farm now.

I was thinking how nice it is to have these critters around. The chicks are so much fun, and I just get stuck watching them. Before work, I head out there to fill up their waterers, check their feed buckets, let them out, etc. But I have to set an alarm for "you need to get going NOW" becauce otherwise I'd just be out there all day.

Whenever I go out there, I usually have a leghorn standing on each boot trying to investigate my pants / shoe laces, another between my boots, and the rest of the chicks cornering me. I was worried I wasn't going to like them, or find them too much work. They're just charming little critters, huh?

Finally got permission on Wednesday to start walking without the boot. So of course it is REALLY sore right now. But I’m trying not to overdo it.

So glad you found it, th at will really help. And even thought part of me would love to burn mine, I will definitely pack it away somewhere. Hopefully will never need it, but things happen.

“What?? I only plucked out a few feathers. How else am I going to keep these eggs warm?”

🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

I dropped an egg today while sitting at my desk putting them in cartons. Had a heck of a time finding where it went.

Yes dark here at 9, miserable weather, very wet very cold.

The hens are not going broody like last spring and I think it's the cold dreary weather. It's just been so dull and cold.
I wish my hens would go broody! Especially if Tomatilla could sit on her eggs...
I heard in Ontario it was really warm...
But the weather got wonky and now you're getting the cold weather. I got -40 c in here in wintertime.

Weather seems to be wonky everywhere.

Sheesh ! Hate when that happens! I have a couple in my coat pocket, forgot about them, bent down - crack! Crushed both 🥺 the gals enjoyed them though.

Will you let your broody girl sit on any eggs?

They are!
By the way @BeefQuesoritto I like your pfp! It is very cute. I love cats, and dogs, but the cats don't like my dog. I had to give Archer (my dog) to my friend because he would become coyote food. He wants to play with everything.
I assume none of your hens have gone broody yet? Hurry up, Tomatilla...

no, they are batch#2 when they were little, before they were moved into the barn. They have grown into such beautiful birds. All the meaties are yellow. No imagination.
Well guess they don’t care the colour of the feathers.

Will you keep this batch 2 or is that your neighbours chicks?

Awww poor wee chickie.

We had 4 days of really spectacular weather went to 30c then dropped back to below freezing and snow. Been miserable since, my poor chickens have not been able to get outside so much it raining so heavy, and raining again here tonight. They can’t dust bathe outside the soil is too damp, thankfully I have a sand box for them inside the barn.
