Buttercup’s wee litttle egg!

She laid this little fairy egg today

And I have had the wee chicklets running around all morning with the big kids. Everyone has behaved.

I put their brooder plate in the sand box so they could warm up when needed 😊 and I put their feed under there so greedy girls can’t get it

Brownie update:

She is sitting tight now. I do not have a camera in the coop but as far as I can tell she isn’t budging from those eggs. I gave her some chick feed mash with a-lot of water in it and I put it right in her bowl with her and she did eat some of it, made me feel better to know she got something for sure.
Chick watch officially begins tomorrow 🤞 The downside of letting Brownie hatch is I cant SEE Anything!!!! Ahhhhh but I think the benefits outweigh the negatives overall. She was talking to those eggs nearly the whole time I was in the coop this morning, no incubator can replicate that! So sweet 🥹

The babies look snug and happy 😊 I love getting those tiny fairy eggs so cute!

Heart emoji for :hugs and caring for you all. You have felt her belly and all, no bulge there, so quite sure it’s not egg binding? The swab will be early this week?

Yes Piglet is perfect! Well she could evolve into something fancier like Pigletine eventually. Or Princess P!
I hope the results come quickly whatever that may be better to know then not. Hoping for the best outcome!
Glad I read ahead, I was pondering a more elegant evolution of Piglet but I couldn’t top Pigletine if I tried! Wonderful suggestion for RC to consider. 💕
Yes you are a responsible hen owner to ensure your not overly taxed - too many times I see people just overloading themselves with pets and such.

The animals are thee ones to suffer 🥰

💕💕💕
I second this. I had my own no dont moment, we were at trade days a local fair here that often includes animals of all sorts. I dislike this part because the animals are exhibited in those tiny travel cages. I know it does not represent their care at home but it still bothers me.

We were walking along and two young boys were wrestling and landed in the pen their parents had set up for two baby babydoll sheep. Well they took off in two different directions and I snatched one up to bring it back to them and held it while they set the pen back up. Well it snuggled in and laid its tiny adorable head on my shoulder. Omg in that moment I was totally 100% attempting to justify bringing it home lol.

All that to say I am glad I didn’t impulsively to that, I have to much to handle as it is at the moment. But they did move into the maybe someday category bit for now the wise decision was its not the right time quite yet.
Grandma just finished up doing a 50 state embroidered flower quilt in blue for my brother. It is pretty and I love it. I was actually slightly jealous. Not anymore, Look what I found. 50 state bird one finished and ready to send to the quilter. I would have fought them all over this one. The rest of the tops are beautiful, but this one has my name written all over it.

Beautiful quilt! My grandmother made quilts I still have a few of them. My mom does needlepoint and the amount of work and time in these handmade beauties is amazing.

Wonderful Brownie update. Talking to those eggs means chicks are on their way. My girls normally start talking to them a day before they hatch.

She has been softly tutting at them on and off since I gave her “live” eggs idk how she knew the difference lol but apparently she did. Today though it was a constant stream of soft noises coming from her. Glad to hear confirmation its a good sign.

All this has me wondering about how in the world they know to do all they do. I raised my girls from day old chicks so they never had any other chickens to teach them a darn thing. How on earth do they know all they do? It’s really quite amazing.
