Spring Cleaning
The main coop got a deep cleaning today and it needed it.

The nest boxes in particular were disgusting from Hattie and Betty sleeping in them.

Of course as soon as the new straw is down, Aurora was ready to party. She made a complete mess of my nicely laid out straw.

I had some chicken potpourri that someone gave me so I scented up the freshly cleaned nest boxes.

Like you said, Aurora has no shame. She will destroy what she wants.

I really am. It is fascinating and terrifying at the same time.
She is getting more and more dedicated - she really flares at me when I grab her off the nest and she stays out only a few minutes each time.
I don’t know why she has it in for Babs - but she goes at her even when they are way away from the nest.
One blessing is that she is too preoccupied to pay any attention to the littles.
It is not really Babs or Eli's fault. When a broody comes off the nest they will go after anyone. They want zero attention from a rooster, and hens had better not look their way either. They are on a mission to eat, drink, poop and dust bath in as short a time as possible. Now that you are experiencing a broody for the first time. Be honest, it is not as bad as you imagined is it? Truthfully once you get through it the first time, it is a breeze the 2nd time.....or the 50th but who is counting.

I dunno - I was thinking how anxious I would be having more than one of these monsters at a time!
That said I find it fascinating to watch her. She is full on warrior Princess. She flared up at a tiny passing song bird (it wisely made itself scarce). And she goes after my hand when I pull her off the nest.
Mostly I worry about her not eating enough.

Awww - they are pretending to be grownups. Copying the bigs at bedtime.

A Mother's Day Tribute
April 8th was the 10th anniversary of chickens at Fluffy Butt Acres. I did not feel like celebrating at the time but the arrival of chickens here should be celebrated. So since Mrs BY Bob is the reason they are all here I have decided to celebrate all of her babies.

So we start with the very first chickens to live with us. Who could say no to that face.

And our initial chicks.
