Counting chickensā¦
9ā¦..
Supposed to be 10, and Marty makes 11 (she roosts in her nest box). Who is missing? Oh well of course who else? Buttercup.
I call over the camera to see if she is hidden in the pileup at the one end. Nope no one moves, I guess the disembodied voice is ignored now.
Nothing for it, I have to go to the barn. 23:20hrs, and cold 7C, brrrr! I need to make sure I actually did count her earlier.
Itās actually a lovely night for winter, crystal clear and a good stiff breeze, stars twinkling, but no northern lights.
Onward to the barn, I creep in trying not to disturb the horses (I snort with laughter at that), oh they know I am there. Even with all the lights out they know my walk, but they also know I am not there to feed them so no warm welcoming nicker from Truly, she always talks to me. Unless it middle of the night!
Ok now weāre is Buttercup? I put on my toques headlamp (love that toque!), and look on the hen house, I donāt see her anywhere - darn it! I check nest boxes good grief.
Then a movement, oh! There she is up in the window well, darn chicken! Ok quick count they are all there, good night chickies see you in the morning, good night geegees behave.
And that is that, I donāt mind going to the barn at 11:30 at night when itās warm, it not when itās cold! Brrrr!
And I dragged Buttercup down from the window.
