Thank you, Brownie has been an awesome mama ❤️

The chicks seem to be thriving, they are far less chaotic acting then my first batch and way better at foraging and running for cover when out and about already. They seem mellower, I don't know if its the breed or if its being broody raised or maybe both.
And I have found the opposite! My broodies are keeping their babies too close I think. They are 4 weeks old and don’t run around like the 6 week olds did - my school chicks will be 3 weeks tomorrow and they are everywhere also! Fully integrated except for night time roosting.

Or maybe it’s just that they are running wild where as a mama would keep them on line 😆

Two emergencies. :he:barnie
My old friend sounded dreadful on the phone when I called him and I live hundreds of miles from him :( .
I called his sister who lives just as far away because I didn't have his carers number (thankfully I have now and have spoken to her) .

It was all panic stations, because his doctor is not available on a Sunday. Thank god his carer got too him and called an ambulance. He has now stabilised and up and running again. Phew that was a close call.

Then...
Princess had fleas on her this morning I was in a blind panic and my phone would not stop. I think I have dealt with the flea situation on both girls and also sorted the coup out again. It was only cleared out the other day .
They have been sprayed with powder as well as the coup and their legs done again. I've added a garlic solution into their water and mashed up egg mint and garlic for their lunch.

What a morning, why does everything happen all at once :th
Well I would say job well done! You got results and made things happen ❤️

Yep always comes in threes trouble I find 😳

Here is the deal.
You put the Permethrin stuff on your clothes - shoes, socks, pants, shirt, hat. Really soak it as @GregnLety says. One can only does five outfits so a real soaking is the right approach.
Then, use this (either as spray or lotion) on any remaining skin (lasts 13 hours).
I have the Picaridin spray - I am ordering some lotion as well when I restock my permethrin spray.
I am wearing a Permethrin soaked hoodie with Permethrin soaked long pants, socks (pants tucked into the socks) and boots. Only remaining exposed skin is neck, face and hands - all Picaridin sprayed.
Not exactly summer gear - but I feel I am at war with these little blood suckers!
I am also carrying a tick removing device in case one gets past all that!
I had to remove one that had burrowed in under my arm when I was going to bed last night - it was the devil’s own job to extract, but I got it and decapitated it. It had been in only a few hours so I don’t need a prescription.
I really hate them. Thank you for posting this information, very helpful. I will get some of Permethrin for any in the woods or by the pond venturing, sounds great!

When my we first moved out to the middle of nowhere Ohio my husband who grew up city decided to walk the property mid summer which is 10 acres 8 of which is forested. When he came back out I realized he had worn shorts and no tick protection of any kind not even bug spray.

I looked at him in horror and he had no idea why my face looked that. I had him strip off everything at the door and head directly to the bathroom. Pulled off quite a number of big ticks but that was minor compared to the deer ticks all in his socks and all over his ankles. It was horrible it took hours to get them all and I am not exaggerating at all. They are sooo freaking tiny it’s ridiculous.

So I am with you on the tick battle 100%

This bunch don't get into much mischief nor do they flit around everywhere like maniacs. They are more sensible and more aware of dangers. Mama is having none of that. I have noticed that if they start messing around she will lightly peck em to get back to work looking for food. Its fascinating to watch and to see the difference in human raised vs broody raised.

The biggest down side for me so far is I can’t really handle them Brownie is fine with me being nearby but if I pick em up and then they cheep even moderately loud she is on me to put them down immediately!

Oops forgot Caturday pics

Aw such lovely moggies! I am a cat person ❤️

Love Mr Cuckoo also is he a BR? 💕

There is a whole thing going on with Eli and the Pentagonists.
I will post about it later when I have had more time to observe, but I think she has sort of adopted them. Or maybe they have adopted her.
But yes, I do think integration is essentially complete apart from where they sleep at night.
And I am still not 100% sure whether they are big enough to eat the pellet food.
They are 6 weeks old tomorrow.

Tax: pretty Sylvie.

Love her feathers very pretty!

My Tweens eat everything now, how big are the pellets? Try them and see, it was no use for me to try to separate the feed so now I mix chick and layer half and half for everyone. I have so much chick feed to go through it’s ridiculous! And the teach sent her 10 chicks with another bad of chick feed 🫣

At this rate I won’t need to buy any fees for a while! I will make sure my hens have to crushed oyster shell for them.
