That's old! I don't think any of my leghorns would EVER be that old. They would go packing off to the soup pot.

I will never kill a rooster because its a boy. I would rather rehome them. I find that killing because of sex is barbaric. They didnt do anything wrong.
I have 5 roos all will live a happy live 2 of the silkies are roos.

I know all that, I have the roo's separate and they all have their own girls. And Im adding their own spaces/coops

Theres always a choice. Rehomeing isnt hard. If I were closer I would take them put them in the roo pen and re home them for her

I had a really long scathing reply to your comments and then I thought - why bother - you obviously are way too good to be told, and know everything. I know of a 100 horse people like you.

Every time someone here makes a suggestion to you, there is always a snippy ready reply that you know what you are doing - no you don't I think.

I would never give any of my Roos to you, your standards of care are substandard to mine.

While my barbarically treated Roos are living with me they will live a carefree life eating bugs, roaming at large and getting all the attention that I can throw upon them.

Your way of animal husbandry, I actually find barbaric

Abigail is not happy. We cannot take on any more chooks, and it is hot here. So my siblings took the wooden eggs out of the nest. Abigail is trying to figure out what to do. I think she may stop being broody. Yesterday she was panting up there and everything. I feel sorry for her, but I would rather her not overheat up there or be sitting there for 21 days hatching wood. If she stayed, I would just get her some chicks.

Being broody in that sort of heat is hard on them, you are right to not have her sitting there in the heat - any way to get a fan on her?

Sometimes it is hard to face the reality we live in. But we have to sometimes .

Ok this now makes me concerned for Tomatilla. She has a PEA comb for goodness sake. And in the rafters (aka top of the rabbit hutch). The fan blows on the rabbits. I have it oscillating so that the chickens in the coop get it aswell.

I'd have to dig a fan out that will fit up there. Now she is busy forgetting how to be broody by taking a dust bath. They are out most of the day. I remember Shad said that taking the eggs out of his hens' nests snapped them out of it. Seems that it worked here. No broody cage needed. I would not be able to stick her in there. She would have ended up sitting on my lap with a jar of mealworms.
