Beautiful birds! Where did you acquire such a variety? I have 7 Barred Rocks about 5 weeks old now - I ordered them from the local feed store. Previous pullets I got at tractor Supply- this is my 3 batch of pullets raising from a few days old. I acquired a used coop and it served us well- after viewing all the coop designs we began a new journey in building the ultimate chicken coop. We shall see how it goes!
I have acquired chickens from numerous sources. My best success came with those from a friend of mine. I'd love to see photos of your barred rocks.

Wish we had an easy way to do a dna test!

Meanwhile remember that article on familial scent with the chickens? It would explain a lot with Rico and Tippy, who are full siblings, those two are inseparable, meanwhile Martina who is only 1/2 sibling through their Dada, is always the odd one out. So she has been hanging out with the school chicks more.

I have been watching the school chicks to see if any of them hang out together more often. Jury is out on that - likely because there are 10 of them!
Let me rephrase that as there is an easy way, just wish it was less expensive! $88 CAD, per bird.

No. No avian vets and no vets period that will accept chicken patients. Except for the one in Bluffton that neutered my cats no vets around here, that are close enough not to be an hour's drive away.
That's very unfortunate. I lived that life for too long. There are very limited things you can do on your own. You can try getting baytril from all bird products if you want to try an antibiotic. I have no idea if it would get there in time.

I would get some in case you ever need it again since you have no access to a vet.

Would they ship to Canada? I might be flagged at the border 😢

If I were closer I could get her some from my veterinarian. Thank goodness for him, and as I have known him for over 35 yrs (and he knew me when I was still working as a Nurse), he knows that I know my stuff with the critters. I will be terribly sad when he fully retires 😢

I will be stocking up in a whole load of stuff when he does let me tell you!!!

Killers at Rest

These 2 killers stopped by my daughter's deck on Saturday. She thought one of them might have a leg issue, see how it is holding its one leg out.

They were completely unafraid of her. So much so that with her standing in the deck, they lay down! Had anyone ever seen a hawk do this!

They seem like juvenile sharp shinned hawks. What do you think @ChicoryBlue ?

Well, I have to break the news somehow.
I will tell you, although this is through many tears on my side.
Lhicken is not here anymore. She is gone. I am cremating her even though there is a fire ban.
Oh so sorry.
:hugs

Take a few days to mourn her loss before making any decisions. I think you should keep your user name in her memory.

That hawk laying down is exactly how I feel at the moment. I don’t even want to get up and take some Tylenol.

No, she is already being cremated. The fire ban will not go because it is not going to rain anytime soon. The @#$%^ weather forecasters promised rain this afternoon but no more than a drizzle happened and it cleared right up. It thundered a lot, like taunting me, and then left.
I will think on it.
If you bury her you could plant something pretty to mark the spot.

Wow that’s unusual. Yes the one has a leg problem Unfortunately. I have never seen hawks be so bold or act like this. I would say they are distressed, I think its early for hawks to be fledged yet (but maybe not where you are further south).

Any chance she can contact animal services for guidance?
