I have acquired chickens from numerous sources. My best success came with those from a friend of mine. I'd love to see photos of your barred rocks.

But I think a girl - Petunia

Her feathers are brown tipped! How odd?
Petunia has a very pretty sheen going on there!

As far as 'boy' I don't know - there isn't the slightest bit of coloring like Rico - and they are the same age, right? Also, though not the best angle, it doesn't look like there are any wattles showing yet, either

@BY Bob : What does Phyllis' comb look like under the lovely headdress of hers? Do hens get the slightly forked comb, too?

P.S. I LOVE that picture of Petunia. You should submit it for POW and for the next feather photo contest - very nice detail of the feathers - both texture and a bit of shimmer at the 'nape' of her neck! 🥰 I think she is just adorable.

No hens at her house. HOA rules.
Maybe some bantams and use the guest room as an aviary??? Probably isn't a rule against pet birds in the house - she can just tell everyone it is an new type of parrot🤭🤭 Sebrights would fit that bill quite nicely - @GregnLety 's are beautiful!

I got back from my vacation today. I will tell you more about it tomorrow.
But, I have my first broody chicken! I came back and the first thing I did was check on everyone- everyone's alive.
Willow was the only one who didn't come running, and so I looked on the nest, and there she was.
I was thinking that she was, because the guy watching them didn't pick up eggs- I knew that because a friend came out to pick blueberries and checked on them.
I went to pet her and she puffed all her feathers out and started making broody noises. I reached out to pet her and she pecked me.
I put some food down near her and she ate a few bites before Bolt came and gobbled it all up.
I told myself that I wasn't gonna tell my dad, but I ended up telling him anyways. "Nope. Those eggs will be in the trash tomorrow. I will not have expensive chicks in my house." "B-" "No buts, that's final."
I tried talking him into it, but he was FIRM 😔💔
I feel so bad. I don't want chicks for myself, I want them for Willow.
I told him that if I let her hatch them, I will rehome them. "NOPE!"
I'm gonna try again tomorrow before it's too late.
Well, I also have Covid really bad, which is fun. My Canada experience consisted of staying in a hotel room for the two days I was there.
And I fell down the stairs on the cruise and pulled a muscle in my leg. That hurt bad for a few days.
Well, I get to go to the doctor tomorrow to see how bad this virus is- meaning what hundreds of (fluid out of lung-no idea what it's called-) something medicine thing... yeah...
Ack, good night.

The little clip on rechargeable fan that @micstrachan posted about way back is really effective at keeping them off you.
I even got one that hangs around my neck to keep them off my face.
Seriously one of the best investments ever. And you can also use them to cool down the chicken coop.
Michelle has some with a misting system included. It is so humid here I skipped that bit and just have the fans. They are the only way I can sit out with the mosquitoes in full force. So far this year it has been such a drought that they haven’t been so bad - but rain is forecast for Monday so by Wednesday or so there will be clouds of the little bloodsuckers.
Here is a link to the kind of fan I am talking about.

I have the neck fan, too! It’s good for the time of year when we get those tiny little flies that want to land in your eyes.

Ooh tiny house chickens, that calls for the insanely cute but impractical for me Seramas. I want those tiny chickens so bad I cannot stand it. Lately they are popping up for sale all around locally. I am resisting, I do not feel I could safely free range them. Serama's come in all kinds of colors and normal feathers, silkied feathers or frizzled.

Why not hide the eggs and swap them for a night? Abigail went broody, snapped out of it, and now is trying to hatch wood again. I think she will snap out of it again tomorrow, based off of her patterns.

I hope you get better soon. I was sick for some time. I just let it run its course and seem to be fine (I asked a doctor, don't worry).
