I was on the tail end of my only time having covid. I had been so sick that for a few days that I was not able to go outside to tend to the chickens. Finally that morning I woke up with enough energy to go outside and simply sit with the flock. I went outside to heartbreak. A slew of feathers, rooster feathers from a epic battle and my special boy gone. The culprit was a big male coyote. We got him, but not before he also claimed my Henrietta, Clover and a young grow out pullet that was Raven's sister. Drummie gave his life protecting his flock. The day he passed is also the day Corona and her brothers hatched. His final group of chicks.
I'm so sorry 😔😕 it sounds like he was a lovely boy. Such a shame that a coyote came and took him. I am glad that he was able to have chicks, and I am glad that he protected his flock ❤ :hugs

Oh my gosh so eggciting!!

Ok I am putting i the order for 5 pullets and one roo, 😊😊

I take it you will put them in the incubator? Can’t wait to see them 😊
What are you doing, no roos no. I already promised mom no more silkie roos. Pullets people, I need pullets. I am going to ask her advice. I have a empty incubator. I also have a very stubborn broody hen who is just waiting for me to give up trying to break her and let her have eggs. I could relent, give Perdita a store egg tonight and stop all attempts to break her and give her the eggs 24 or 48 hours after they arrive. Decisions, Decisions.

The inspection crew is at it again, this time I made sure to measure twice and cut once 😊

Yep I agree I would not know how to insert a tube into a chooks esophagus- I would be afraid of getting not o to the trachea 😳

Next time I go to my small animal vet with the chooks I am going to get her to show me how to do this.
There is an exceptionally clear video and pictures somewhere here on BYC. I was terrified, but it turned out to be way, way easier than I expected.

I remember, so terribly sad.

I haven't updated in a loooong time. Maria, Petunia, Dawn, and Baby are all laying. It's been very hard to catch up what with all the work to do. Tomatilla is doing well... Mostly except that some of her feathers are missing. She doesn't peck me or any other chicken. She only pecks Chitta and Peace. I took the straw they liked sleeping in and put it in Cookie, Padme, and Amora's cage, and they resorted to the hay that Tomatilla was brooding her eggs on. Chitta poked his head up, and was met by an angry pecking Tomatilla. Grey pecky pancake!! Beware cats.
