I'm so sorryAugust 18, 2021.
I was on the tail end of my only time having covid. I had been so sick that for a few days that I was not able to go outside to tend to the chickens. Finally that morning I woke up with enough energy to go outside and simply sit with the flock. I went outside to heartbreak. A slew of feathers, rooster feathers from a epic battle and my special boy gone. The culprit was a big male coyote. We got him, but not before he also claimed my Henrietta, Clover and a young grow out pullet that was Raven's sister. Drummie gave his life protecting his flock. The day he passed is also the day Corona and her brothers hatched. His final group of chicks.
What are you doing, no roos no. I already promised mom no more silkie roos. Pullets people, I need pullets. I am going to ask her advice. I have a empty incubator. I also have a very stubborn broody hen who is just waiting for me to give up trying to break her and let her have eggs. I could relent, give Perdita a store egg tonight and stop all attempts to break her and give her the eggs 24 or 48 hours after they arrive. Decisions, Decisions.Oh my gosh so eggciting!!
Ok I am putting i the order for 5 pullets and one roo,
I take it you will put them in the incubator? Can’t wait to see them![]()
Pastel sounds great! Here is Pastel crowing
Legend say that he still crows to this day....Here is Pastel crowing
There is an exceptionally clear video and pictures somewhere here on BYC. I was terrified, but it turned out to be way, way easier than I expected.Yep I agree I would not know how to insert a tube into a chooks esophagus- I would be afraid of getting not o to the trachea
Next time I go to my small animal vet with the chooks I am going to get her to show me how to do this.
Our only neighbor who lives about 2 lives away has a rooster, and sometimes you can hear his whisper carried by the wind if you stand by the pond closest to their property.Pastel sounds great!
I can hear the roosters crowing where we are staying.
I remember, so terribly sad.August 18, 2021.
