Happy Twofer Tuesday everyone.
This is Tassels and Pooh. Is it the right angle on Tassels to give an opinion on whether she is a cockerel?

I am not sure about the no need to be careful because they will be dinner anyway.
It is a lot of trouble to go to just to have the bird die of infection a few days later.
My understanding is that capon meat was quite prized so presumably commanded a higher price.
Hang on... I'm confused... are we talking about neutering a rooster to stop his hormones? Or to make it so that you can't hatch out tempting chicks?

Pastel better watch his back if we are talking about neutering roos. I was holding him the other day, and my mom walked past me, he reached over and pecked her on the cheek. What an @$$ (sorry, I'm mad at him)
If he doesn't make it through the procedure, I'll just get another roo. (My dad says that if I get rid of Pastel I can get another -hopefully- nicer roo. I won't ever willingly get rid of Pastel. I just hate him right now.)

Edit: I wouldn't ever get a cockerel or rooster castrated, I'm just mad at my roo. I think that it would be painful.

Does her tail look like the other pullets tails, or it it longer and more curly?
I'm not the best at sexing chickens. I thought that BBQ was a roo, Splotch was a roo and Pastel, Bolt(correct) and Basil (BBQ and Bolt's brother) were all pullets. I got one chicken correct.... and that is why Bolt is my favorite to this day!!

I also attempted taking pictures of the two undetermined chicks for @bgmathteach but honestly I can't tell anything looking at them.

Twofer : black and white is a female, mottled gold ?

Have a very nice Tuesday, everyone.

@TX Chick Noob sending good thoughts for this sad time 💚.

My chickens have a yard delimited by netting , and some of the chickens can cross it. The chicks chose to stay mostly out of the yard, so they do frequent a lot more the adults that also cross the netting : Piou-piou, Léa, Merle, Kara and Nieva. They all roost in the same coop and sometimes during the day, the chicks go inside the chicken yard with the other adults, but usually for a very short time. So while they all know each other quite well, I would not say they are integrated. Gaston did try to mate the female chick once 😱🤬🤬.
We certainly would like to keep her, but I don't want to if it makes her miserable.
Since they already know each other I believe that she could integrate pretty well. Clearly Gaston likes her. 😉

Your tribe is big enough that I'm certain there is a group she could join and that would accept her. I personally would consider keeping her under those circumstances.

I don't know if I did right in the past but I finger fed my girls when they weren't eating. It's worked really well for flexi Tina and Agatha. They came back into eating again. However it failed with Amber :(
4 out of 5 is a success rate to be proud of. That was great work on your part.
