Ewwww! Yep I have seen this in our green bin (compost bin), yuck - I make sure it’s cleaned and dried weekly nowA very gross thing happened today..
TW; I’ll be discussing something rotten/moldy and some graphic bug larvae depictions so if that makes you uncomfortable don’t read.
I got a kitten recently, and for weeks there has been a rancid smell, i figured “well, it’s been about 5 years since i’ve had a kitten, maybe i just didn’t remember the kitten food this stinky.” It would stink to walk in the door and was just horrible. Today, we found a tipped over can of cat food, lifting it up, got it all over the hands and had to go wash it off, to my suprise, it was completely grey, rotten, and moving with maggots! I don’t know how i didn’t see it to pick it up but that sure wasn’t something i expected to see tonight. At least the smells gone i suppose.
I miss my bunnies they were super fun.Another Update: The Rabbit and Chicken Gang (warning lots of pics)
Well, I'm going to give you a more visual update this time. More pics than text. I'm also going to be doing it in memory of some chickens gone past (Mrs. Clean-egg, Lhicken, etc...)
Start with the rabbit gang. I built a new rabbit hutch, and moved some does in there.

It has new pee and poo catches. That way it can be seperated.
I also got a purebred New Zealand white rabbit. His name is Hopper. He's a sweetie.

Starlight's 8 kits got moved into the tractor. Balled up in the corner, as is the custom for Starlight-kits to do. Lego kits.

Now for the does that I moved into the new hutch. Estella, Polar Bear, Gloria, and Midnight V are here.

This post is getting very long. I've got lots of rabbits! And I haven't taken a picture of Fireheart yet. And I just realized that I haven't done Oaty-wan Kenobi yet either... He's a pretty tan rabbit that might just end up on the barbecuer...
Here's Cookie (top) Astra (middle) and Padme (bottom). All three have kits. Cookie has 11, Padme has 5, and Astra has 9.

Ooops sorryI didn't hear a bad word. Nope.![]()
Sometimes changing up feed can show some new brands they may like better. Not always a bad thing to try new.@bgmathteach- it wouldnt link.
I feed mine Nutrena Layer Pellets. My dad went to buy food last week and he got a brand I've never see before. Oh well, at least they have food.
lovely to go down memory laneHappy Pony Sunday at 12 AM
A trip back into memory lane.
Dina, my Black Lab who passed away three years ago.
My dad and I made (snout saddles, I think it was called?) And we put them on Dina.
Oops, the next one is from yesterday. We had a rat snake sleeping where the chooks perch. I tried to catch him but he slithered down where I couldn't get him. (Taken at my farm)
Coach, my Aussiedor who passes away in April. (Australian shepherd Black Lab mix) (taken at my farm)
Coach resting his head in Dina in my old car we don't have anymore.
Dina being the perfect model for a picture.
I always used to dress Dina up. Here she is in some dog pj's
Dina again with the horse I drew for her.
All of these (except for the ones labeled ' taken at my farm' are from my old house. I didn't have chickens. I didn't even know how smart they are I just thought that they were some stupid birds. Nope.
I miss them, but I am focused on the future. I love the dogs I have right now, and I love my birds.
As much as I hate to say it, I have let go of both if these dogs. I wish they were still here, but they aren't. And that's okay. Now they are at peace together.![]()
Yes my RLS keeps me awake, so I distract myself by watching tv and FBA.Have a restful night! Enjoy your day tomorrow.
I'm wondering if most people were busy tonight- usually ponypoor, by Bob, feathhead007 post more in the later evening. Hope everyone including animals are safe and sound.
I want mine raise by the rest of the chickens. They can (and will) educate them on chicken survival much better than I can. They also educate them on what to eat vs what NOT to eat (I'm not eating bugs, grubs, and grass seed, thank you). Yes, I have extra roosters as a result. If I happen upon someone needing a roo for their ladies, I will quite happily give them one. If not, freezer camp will happen. I know they've had the enjoyment of life and lived to its fullest before that happens. If a predator (ground based) hits, I know my chooks have a good chance at survival (evade, escape, ruckus) and life will go on. They've called us out to deal with things before.I will buy pullets if I need to get chicks anymore. The Roos are to much drama, and issues with getting rid of them too difficult.
And I will hand rear them rather than with a broody.
I am quite interested in getting some Brahma still.
I just noticed Hattie’s beak and a tomato have lined up perfectly! I thought she had a berry…The chicks will be fine with the heat. No worries there.
SHRA Tax because I just know someone else answered you.

True, but it is THEIR choice that way - so they can self regulate as opposed to being forced to eat the calcium as it is in the feed.I was a bit concerned and then frustrated because there I am trying to get feed with lower calcium levels an there they are eating the oyster shells!![]()
Well, at least deer poop is easier to clean off the porch than chicken poop is!More of the porch invasionView attachment 3578443View attachment 3578444
Time to go feed chooks and see if Indigo came in after last check. If not, I'm going to be on broody watch again so I can follow her to her nest. (She is NOT on the one Lark gave away at the top of the olive trees.
