That stuff is surprisingly pricey. Ouch! It's in my cart but I don't know........
Good grief that has gone up a lot - I paid $33 for it (which I thought was expensive!).
There are other suppliers so probably available cheaper. It is a weird thing to have got so expensive!

Two-fer Tuesday

Hello everyone - hope everyone is ok, and wish I could send some of this rather chilly weather to those of you in the hot steamy south :(

For today's viewing pleasure we have:

Two dirt bathing silkies - Curly and Fluffy - I say dirt because they were outside where it's raining and came in here to wallow in the dirt. Lovely....

Two red hens - Sharpie and Tuff

Two babies - Sophia as all but weaned her kids, but they still hang around her from time to time.

I am in need of washing and putting my horse blankets away but never seem to get the time to do this... meanwhile they have poopies on them - yuck!

I know you used this for Light, to move her crop along?
Dioctyl Sodium sulfosuccinate (Ducosate is the human stool softener name for it) - it is a surfactant that will help to break down any impacted material, and move it along. Might want to ask your Vet re: dosage though.

I think Light gave a link to a thread on it.

An open competition for lead hen must be something to see. I have never had that here. Please keep us informed. I'm fascinated.
It is not pretty and not for the feint of heart let me tell you. I get the feeling that if the lead hen is allowed to age out and pass naturally the flock members sense this. The squabbles for the future top spot probably still happen but under her supervision and they may not be nearly as noticeable. My flock did not get this chance. It has been all out war and hen fights are never pretty even under the best of circumstances. Rooster fights are not nearly this bad or in my experience this drawn out.

Hattie shows down when it gets real hot. Older hens aren't on this mission to populate the world any longer.

I do see an overall slowing from everyone when it is really hot.
Yes here too, though the Silkies seem to handle the heat better - likely their feathering.

I can always rely upon the Silkies to supply me with an egg most days.
