Do they not like the roost for some reason? Mites maybe?
I can't imagine why there would be mites on the roosts, as opposed to in the litter. But literally, they've always done this! I got them at about 6 weeks old and they were in the small coop. It had a tiny roost, maybe 6" of the floor, because it's quite low, maybe 2' tall. But I never saw them on it. When it was dusk they'd puppy pile in the corner of the run, but would eventually go in the coop.

When we moved them in the big coop they continued this behavior. I didn't see them on a roost for a solid month. But they are usually up on the roosts in the morning, if we get out there early enough.

I keep telling you guys I have weird chickens. :gig

When my rocks were young, they would sometimes pool into a cuddle puddle also.
At the time, I had six other large hens but they left the Rocks alone.

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with treat ideas for spoiled birds like mine. Today they had slices of watermelon, corn on the cob, 🌽 meally worms, diced steak,
Greek yogurt, a few Ritz crackers with cheese on top.
And now they enjoyed the walnuts. :old :clap
They eat better than I do!

Meanwhile, mine want to go up to the rafters. Today Sylvie decided that she didn't need to roost with either her fellow Pentagonists or Bernie and Babs and spent about 45 minutes trying to roost on the tops of doors and windows and constantly eyeing the rafters. She flies well, but I think not that well. I couldn't watch!

Those rocks are great! I may need to go and get some huge rocks for the Rooster Run.
They were part of the landscape when we bought the place. I keep seeing similar ones on the mountain sides. They're fantastic for beak and nail scraping...not to mention escaping hormonal idiots. I toss scratch on them to encourage spending time on them. If you pursue getting some, you're going to need help getting, hauling, unloading, and positioning them. Alternatively, get a hold of a landscaper and see what they have.

Yesterdays 1st day of school picture with the offending hair cut. She has wore it the same for 8ish months now. I do not care what she does as long as she does not shave it or have wild colors put in it. It is her hair and I want her to have what makes her feel good about herself. Of course when crap happens like this morning she does not believe me when I tell her it looks good. I'm her mother and I am supposed to say things like that.

Her hair cut looks just fine! I hope her school pictures come out lovely and then Grandma can put them 'in her pipe and smoke it!"

Tell Rosie that I said she is a beautiful girl - and not let old-fashioned, cranky Grandma ruin her day. Grandma is just looking for attention!

Besides REAL beauty is on the inside - and Rosie has that in spades! Real beauty never fades - it lasts as long as the life within does - and that is SOOOO MUCH MORE precious than external beauty. I know, as a teen it is hard to see and accept that - but soon enough she will understand the truth to that statement. She already intrinsically knows it with her friend MAllory - it is just hard to think of it in terms of herself at this age.

Give her a hug for me!
