I think I see at least a but of pink in that first photo, if so I would say yes it is likely a boy.

I talked about the puppy pile these crazy birds do at night. Here's tonight.

Brave Manny on the bottom, hens on top. Every single night. Is this normal? I don't know when they move up to the roost...but eventually they do. Weirdo chickens.

Did a little out in the coop time. Twice Manny got all rapey...twice Eenie escaped unmolested back behind the fence. Saturday we'll do some thorough fortifications for the triplets and her and then it'll be time for her and them to fend for themselves. At 4 weeks old today, they are way past time to be out. I simply have no time til then. I did put a box in the corner, but since Manny never came back in, no one used it. I bet the others will be annoyed, since that's where they puppy pile. Oh well.

One of the triplets, Tres, has developed quite the comb. Uno and Dos have none so far. Does that indicate unfortunate male tendencies? I figured it would be too much to hope for 3 pullets. Or is 4 weeks just too young to tell?

I've had roos pop indicators as early as 3 weeks. Some don't pop until 9-12 weeks.

I would consider that strange chook behavior. But what do I know?

Do they not like the roost for some reason? Mites maybe?

I have successfully given the chooks walnuts. Last year they hated them so I never tried giving them more. Until this afternoon. They all went crazy over the walnuts. I made them small and easy to swallow pieces.

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with treat ideas for spoiled birds like mine. Today they had slices of watermelon, corn on the cob, meally worms, diced steak,
Greek yogurt, a few Ritz crackers with cheese on top.
And now they enjoyed the walnuts.

It's dusk, so I relocated my escapee broody leghorn from her grassy nest to the dog house and kennel. She squawked the whole way, but no pecks. I've got some fake eggs under her. If she stays broody, then I'll be happy to switch them out for real ones...
